Ah.... I know your kind.
First off, my ex is an ex because he wimpered when I told him to fetch me my Cat o' nine tails. ![]() I'm getting the same thing I get when I take my car in to have the oil changed and they try to tell me the engine is shot and I need to buy a new car. Ok, last try. See, I know what I want and I know what I do not want. I do not want to put a TV tuner or satellite card in the PC. There is only ONE SLOT in the pc and there is only 2.25" of clearance. The max height the card can be is 2.25" ![]() They don't make TV tuners or satellite tuners that short to fit in a PCI slot. Even if they did or do make them that small, I don't want to put any sort of TUNER card in the PC.. Mmkay? I guess that's just not sinking in. So, to make it easier, I'll break down into a form that even a guy can understand. Will the following device work in a gb-pvr system? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6815100120 I just want to have an s-video INPUT into the machine that I can view through gb-pvr. Pretend that you have no idea what I am going to feed into it. It might be a VCR or a DVD player or a satellite receiver. Whatever it is, it puts out an s-video signal and I want to view that video signal in real time on the gb-pvr machine. Savvy?

See, I know what I want and I know what I do not want.I understand exactly what you're asking for, but being rude doesnt make your requirements any more viable. Dont get upset with me just because I tell you that you cant magically get an svideo signal into your PC with no hardware. Quote:Will the following device work in a gb-pvr system?Sorry, that card wont work. It lacks the hardware MPEG2 encoder that GB-PVR requires. There are low profile cards that have this, but none that I know of that dont have a tuner. Here is an example low profile device that will work with GB-PVR: http://www.hauppauge.com/pages/products/...mcelp.html

Maybe you could solve this from a slightly different angle. An inexpensive video switch may solve your problem.

If all you want to do is playback content, why not put the gbpvr output on one input of the TV and whatever else you have on another and switch with the remote.

Thank you JW. I have considered that option. It was what I intended to fall back on as a last resort.
Thank you too Pastro but my TV only has ONE s-video input. ![]() To the admin. My comments were not directed towards you but towards the two smarties that posted before me. I think THEY own me an apology. I was not being rude, I was responding in an appropriate tone to the smart mouth little boys. I don't take lip or backtalk from males. As to this pvr-150 device. Massive overkill. Way more than I need or want. And about $60 more than I want to spend. I really do not want TV or radio ability. We have three TV channels here and they suck. I haven't watched local TV in years. I don't listen to the radio either. I just don't care for what they broadcast around here. I really, really, really only want to have an s-video input into the machine. I don't want to capture and record the video signal, just pass it through to the TV. I suppose that if this is my ONLY choice then it's what I'll have to do. While the switch option would be much cheaper the only remote control s-video switch (RCA) I've ever found has gotten bad reviews. It's likely it would make me mad and I would break it. I require my equipment to work properly at all times on demand. When it doesn't, I get angry.

Given you dont need to record etc, I'm not sure whether you really need GB-PVR. If you just want to be able to see the svideo input on your PC, then you'd probably be able to use that card you linked with the software it comes with.

There are other remote switches than RCA. Do a search on google. You don't need a PVR to do what you want. Since you do not want to use composite video because of quality issues, it's likely you will not like the quallity of a digitized and compressed Mpegs captured from the svideo input of a capture card either, and a manual or remote switch would give you better results.

sub Wrote:Sorry, but as I said, I'm not aware of any analog svideo input devices with hardware MPEG2 encoder. Well what I want is the media center abilities of the gb-pvr software. I don't care to record anything, only play back pre-recorded things, whatever they may be. I have about 8 terabyes of stuff stored across multiple machines on my network, I have several Linux NAS servers, a few SAMBA servers and several NTFS servers. Everything is connected by fiber optics. I do have a secondary wired lan for oddball stuff. I have several Macs too. They are all shared and linked and everything is accessible from everything everywhere in my house. I spent a lot of money on all that stuff. My ex built most of it and I watched and asked questions and learned as much as I could. I'm not stupid. I just don't know everything that I should know. I'm trying to learn more so I don't have to ever depend on anyone ever again. I can build a PC from total scratch and install Linux on it without help. But I did not build the satellite machine. I PAID for it but I didn't build it myself. Believe me, I paid a lot for all the goodies that's in it. It's staying just the way it is. It works great and I'm very happy with it. It doesn't get touched except twice a year to blow the dust out. It's sad that they don't make something as simple as an s-video pass-through card. I don't know why men have to complicate stuff so much. You guys always have got to add the extra bling-bling, more knobs, a beer cooler, spinners and more chrome. Can't you ever make something plain and simple, just a basic thing to do one thing only? Is that just impossible?*I just don't know why you have to have one thing that does 400 things. I don't need a Swiss Army Knife just to put butter on a slice of bread.. It's soooo frustrating to get told "Oh honey, you need to buy the GeeWhiz-3000 to do that! wink-wink" and the GeeWhiz-3000 has 500 things it can do and costs $250 when I only need to do one thing that should cost about $10 to do. You can't imagine how frustrating this is. Makes me want to throw it all out to the curb, the same place I left the ex sitting. |
