I have to agree with you on that one barkers123.

The number of potential users that would be captured through different PVR-related Google-searches should probably not be underestimated.

And the site-specific Google search ( -site:forums.gbpvr.com ) would probably also be of help to some Smile

Sub - you think an exception in the robots.txt could be relevant or are there more to it than meets the eye?

Never thought of that - bet you would scoop up loads more users. From my experience, there's no way you can build any PVR without heavy use of the web. All those remote problems, standby stuff, codecs, not to mention problems with all the other flakeware PVR software out there... I came across GBPVR myself while googling on how to get my daughter's basic PC-TV app to work properly.

Anyway, still feeling guilty about moaning. Just deployed my 1.0.16 upgrade too - now on beta trial with the family. Looks bril and has been rock solid so far. So big thanks to Sub and to lots of other forum members for all your excellent work.

That said, I do beleive that the following robots.txt text would allow the top 3 search engines to have a wander, while still keeping out the riff-raff...

I thought that would work but it doesn't. I remember googling and getting results from the gbpvr website. Did something change there? Or is only the wiki site available for google?

i've done that for the forum too in the past & it worked (was something with only 3 chars if memory servers me right), seems like google purges his index after some time, must have happened after sub set the robots.txt

That reminds me of a joke from about 10-12 years ago when the internet was new to a lot of people:

1st guy:"Yesterday evening I got myself on the internet, really fascinating stuff you can find there". 2nd guy:"Yeah I know, I downloaded it last week" Wink

try this , go to google or googletoolbar search , type what you are searching for followed by site:forums.gbpvr.com Example hd site:forums.gbpvr.com

You may have to elaborate on the hd though unless you want to sift through alot of posts with the word HD in it.

I'm ambivalent about this. Some days I like the PVR related hits I find from avsforum and others I don't but I definitely don't like the presentation of the search result when you enter via google.

The search engine web crawlers have caused endless problems in the past.

I've reenabled google to index the forum, and will leave it enabled as long as it doesnt cause problems.
