I am attempting to have Zprocess2 to trancode a dvr-ms file to feed my MVP.
I looked at the instructions in the wiki and it says to use a replacement Trans2MVP.exe file. I believe it should have been part of the downloadable zprocess2.zip file but it was not!

When I start Zprocess2 and choose the Zprocess settings, I select the Trans2MVP profile. I then should be able to select the *4-dvr-ms template.....but it is not there for me to select !

Does anyone know if indeed it is because I have the original Trans2MVP.exe file instead of the replacement ? If so, where could I get the replacement Trans2MVP.exe ? Thanks!

There seems to be room for confusion. So I'll try to describe it here. I'll try and update the wiki later too...

First of all, the phrase Trans2MVP was first used by sub when he wrote a small helper program that is included in GB-PVR. I don't know all of the features or actions of this program as ZProcess's normal operation does not need to consider those features. Basically as I understand it, as it pertains to dvr-ms files, when you select a dvr-ms file to view on the MVP, GB-PVR will NOT call ZProcess (or ffmpeg) as it does with other file types like AVI or WMV, but rather it calls Trans2MVP.exe that will work with an installed Mux, that handles the transcoding.
  • (Later when there was much discussion on the boards for ways to transcode non-MVPs, I started to use 'Trans2MVP' as a profile name in ZProcess. Within ZProcess, Trans2MVP should never be thought of in conjunction with the GB-PVR supplied Trans2MVP.exe file)
  • (In ZProcess, the Trans2MVP profile is a collection of settings which should be most appropriate for an Output file format for playing on the MVP. You could and probably should use the Trans2MVP profile while you use the replacement Trans2MVP.exe when you transcode on-the-fly dvr-ms files)
Now, the work-around that I developed in my attempts to get on-the-fly transcoding for dvr-ms files was to replace the GB-PVR supplied Trans2MVP.exe and supply my own that would receive the request from GB-PVR, but rather than work with the installed mux, call ZTranscode (which is the real operator in ZProcess2) that would use a newer experimental version of ffmpeg and mencoder to do the transcoding.

The work with dvr-ms is still experimental, and with my recent move, I have still not become settled well enough to dig in and start work on it yet. And unfortunately the move has broken my train of thought, so it will be a little while before I get back up to speed where I can tweak, and release, and work with people to improve the program.

If I remember correctly, the dvr-ms transcodes work well with the beta version and alternate ffmpeg files available in this thread:
http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=29765

My goal is to make it all work with MEncoder as well

If I remember, my own computers were not strong enough to transcode dvr-ms files beyond a 30 sec segment, but I believe that it is pure computer grunt that is the problem, and not my programs operation.

I have two p4 2ghz equivalent machines that I use to test and write on. I believe that a 2.8 or 3.0 should be more than enough to do on-the-fly transcoding of dvr-ms files on the MVP

I hope this helps a bit
