Killing a process which won't die?

I've used something like this in the past with great success.

I had a conversation in a pub a while back with a guy that worked for a cable TV company. He was one of 4 server support guys for 400 servers spread across the UK - he mentioned devices like this.

Unfortunately I don't own the machine that hung on me last night (or have a control over what the owners spend their money on) so it's unlikely I'll get one as a fallback.

XP also has a command line utility called taskkill.exe

Thanks - I've used this in the past (I think) and was racking my brains trying to remember the name.
