No. If you're not doing high def though, most machines will cope just fine without hardware acceleration.

if one plans on doing HD in the near future what would be best for an XP machine? FSE?
BTW, great job sub.

FWIW, I can watch HD just fine with EVR in WinXP using my office computer:
Opteron 185 (@2.7Ghz) Radeon X1900XT using the ATI MPEG decoder The video quality looks fantastic. But it wasn't bad with VMR9 either. I doubt my PVR (in sig) will have the horsepower to run it tho.
