Right now I have a 3000+ Socket 939 Processor, a 9600se video card(AGP) to go along with 512 megs of memory sitting out in my garage. My current system (built for gaming) really strains when im watching tv and trying to game at the same time. TV Picture goes into slow motion and gets choppy. Anyhow would the above along with a Haupage 1600 allow me to watch HDTV or would I not have enough oomph.

Im trying to decide on the most cost effective way for me to be able to watch HD through a 2nd computer so I can get the Tuner card out of this one.

Or would I be better off Just building a cheap new system?

Thanks for your opinions. Im new to all this still.

Looking through the AGP Card to use thread I notice the 9550 card seems to run it ok so I would assume the 9600se is a step above that?

Well I cant comment about the video card because I have no experience with ati cards before the x1k series. But before I upgraded my system I did HD playback with a sempron 2800 on a socket 754 system with 512 meg ram.
You might need to upgrade the video card to get smooth hd playback in pvrx2
I can get smooth playback in pvrx2 with some finagling with my x1550, but so much of the smooth playback can hinge upon choice of decoder and vmr settings.
The rest of the hardware should be fine for HD

Intel GMA4500

Hauppauge HD PVR

AMD Athlon 3300+
Nvidia 8600GT 256M
1Gb ram
250gb Hard Drive

I had GBPVR running fine on Windows XP machine with an AMD 3000XP chip & ATI9600 video. I've since upgraded to a cheap AGP motherboard (MSI K9MM-V) & AMD 64 3500 processor and am running PVRX2 with the same video card.

Why not try it and let us know? If it doesn't work, you have to buy something else anyway.

Should work ok, though.
I bet Michael Bay uses GBPVR because it's awesome:

HDTV is not PERFECT on my system, but it's good. It skips from time to time, other than that it's fine. It took a lot of tweaking to get to the point it is now. SDTV is perfect, no problem at all. Note that my system is very close to what you are proposing.
