What sort of gap are you wall mounted fellas working with? I'm looking to get a flat panel soon and was curious to know how much of a gap I'd have once I mounted it on the wall. IMO, having a TV sticking out of a wall more than, say, 2" or so would look a little silly.

You press a button and the fireplace swings round revealing a secret compartment Big Grin

That is a good question. How far does it stick out from the wall. I took a picture of mine sticking out from the wall. It really doesn't look bad from the front at all.
I like the fact that with the tilt angle I can place the center channel speaker in behind the TV so it cannot be seen. I did not want any thing other than the TV on the wall. My setup is shown here in a different thread where I asked about how high to place the TV on the wall.

I think I have the mount picked out. I really need to pick one up here locally if I want it before the end of the month.

I'm trying to figure out my cabling at the moment. I would like to extend all of the tv's inputs (including the ones I'm not currently using) to some kind of an A/V panel mounted in the drywall at the bottom of the wall. I have seen this on some custom setups but can't seem to find the panel. It also occured to me that this will cost me a fortune in cables Rolleyes

Pfft..nothing is ever easy. If I was still a bachelor, I would probably just lean the thing up against the wall in front of the sofa and be done with it. I once had a tv sitting on top of the box it came in for nearly two years Big Grin

For cables, you seriously need to use monoprice.com. I have used them for the last two revisions to my media setup, and they are solid quality for a very reasonable price.

You might have a look at eBay for something like that, I am installing a 40 in samy 1080p for my parents on the wall in the basement living room this weekend and I'm trying to find something like that. I know at Lowe's you can get modular plates that use snap in connectors and you can get RCA to coax snap ins but they are only available in black, so one would need to label them. RG6 regular or quad shield works great for transferring a/v signals in wall and when you need to take coax to RCA you use the snap plugs or at radio shack you can get adaptors that screw on to the coax and gives you rca. Also you can get a fancier coax crimper / terminator that uses compression fittings and you can get RCA connectors that go on coax (kinda expensive for the crimper and the ends but worth the money if you deal with coax a lot like I do, bought mine off ebay with some ends for 50 dollars (professional one)) I did a similar setup for my parents about a year ago for the upstairs living room tv but I didn't know that they had those snap connectors so i just used regular coax snap ins and the converters from radio shack. The setup was the tv one side of the room and dvd/surround receiver on the opposite side. ran coax under the floor from one side to the other about a 25 - 30 foot run, works flawlessly for regular video and component, no visible interference.

Wow that was a long post sorry about rambling
good luck with your setup and be sure to post pics of you setup when done, and if any bodies interested i can post pic over the weekend of the stuff i did

My wife wants us to put ours (just a little 37" LCD) above the fireplace mantle and I've been struggling with where to put the 3000' of cables Wink
I have my GBPVR box (mid-tower :eekSmile, VCR, DVD player, Dish Network Reciever, Direct TV Receiver (for OTA HD, in case you were wondering why I had both - I can't see paying Dish $40/month + the HD receiver cost when I can get most of the HD channels for free) and finally, an xbox.
Of course, she wants it all "hidden". She's okay with me building something to cover up the brick on the sides of the fireplace (we don't use it for fires anyway), so I was thinking about building in a A/V cabinet or something.

Either that, or put a door on the fireplace and cram it all in there Big Grin
