Hey guys,

Is there any reason why I can't or shouldn't put the main menubottons in a popup?

I would like to save real estate and having the menubuttons in a popup would certainly do that.
The only thing is it breaks the look and feel of GBPVR, although I think for a plugin like GameZone the enhancement would offset this issue.

I'd appreciate any feedback... (Sub, any thoughts?)

Cheers

I've always tried to follow the "buttons on the left, list on the right" look of the default GB-PVR screens but it's not law.

Have you got a screen shot or diagram of what you have at the moment, and an idea for the future layout? I found (esp with the files plugin), that trying to fit to much on the screen at once can cause problems. Remember the 10ft interface!

Cheers McBain for your thoughts, I have set out an idea of what I am thinking, I can add an example with the popup buttons if you would think that will help.

I agree with what you say about visibility and its a valid point, I feel this can still be achieved with a similar layout to what I am talking about.

anyway heres the picture.

Cheers

There isn't any technical reason why you couldn't do that. In fact in SearchWiz, I recently moved a couple of the menu buttons off the busy looking main menu and put them in the Filter popup.

Thanks for your feedback JW, I was just thinking as its really just a cosmetic issue how much extra effort do you think it would be to write the plugin so it could flip between standard GBPVR look and feel to the non-GBPVR mode.

I am getting towards the end (well at least its in sight) for GameZone v2 with minimal changes from the current GameZone other than really the changing of UIhelper to yours and a move from GBPVR to PVRx2 look n feel, so now would be a good time to get it sorted out I guess.

I don't think it would be too hard to provide this functionality to the user. I would think you could make a config setting so the user could pick which view they wanted.

In the code, you could select different skin elements depending on the user selection. In the skin files, you would provide elements for the full view AND the stream-lined view.
