Just install the current 1.1.5 release of GB-PVR, and set the number of MVP servers to autostart to '1' in the config app, then it should be enough to get get you started (ie, get the GB-PVR UI up on your MVP).

Not forgetting that if you are starting from scratch there are some prerequisites to installing gbpvr. Have a looksee at http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?p=239294
notably:- "In case you dont already have them, you need to have .net 2.0 installed, as well as the updated Microsoft runtime from http://www.gbpvr.com/vcredist_x86.zip." good luck and have fun. Martin

Many thanks for both replies, had just decided I needed net 2.0.50727 even tho latest XP update seemed to install net 3.0, so downloaded and started to run when we had a power cut due to gales. Will backtrack and let you know in a while. Once again many thanks.

Think all done so far. Display on tv looks the same, sound files work, photos work, videos dont? -
I have a hard drive full of avi files yet on the tv screen display says there are no video files in that directory. If I click on the avi file on the computer then VLC media player launches and plays the files correctly, do I need to convert the avi files ?

Did you add your video-dir too the list of video-dirs in config-drectories?
If you want to view the avis through your mvp, be aware of the fact that they have to be transcoded (on the fly) to mpg. The mvp can only play mpg's. When you start an avi it might take a few secs before it actually starts. You need a system with ~at least a 2ghz processor, to be able to transcode faster than realtime. If the avis won't play in gbpvr/pvrx2 on your computer, you probably need to install some codecs. e.g xvid (koepi) or divx. I think koepi's xvid is considered the better one. Hans

Thanks for all the help.
Yes my video directory is shown in the MVP tv menu and I have installed the xvid codec onto pc (pc is 2.5Mhz Celeron with only 256Mb Ram and always has been slow). Files downloaded such as mpeg and mpg show up and play. But I have a full hard disc someone has given me with avi files on that I would like to play. The full file extensions are somewhat complex but this is an example .s01e01.pilot.dvdrip.eng.ws.mp3.xvid-bytor.avi they don't show in the directory and hence cannot be played, have tried converting using WMconverter (free file) to mpg files, they can then be seen but when playing get no video and scratchy sound. Getting closer but more expert help needed.

Many thanks for all help supplied, in desperation copied files to a different machine and they work perfectly, now will fine tune.
Once again many thanks for the expertise. |
