Only graphics program I know is MS Paint. But I picture this with some 3D effects and shading. Just demonstrating the idea not a final product. Maybe I'll learn Gimp or some other application this week. Been meanign to learn a graphics package for awhile, just find they are the most non-intuitive types of programs in my opinion.

How do I add an attachment? Do I have to supply a URL for a picture?

Think I got it

Chimp, I like your design but it's on the goth side for a product like this. Still, it's neat.

A friend of mine put this together in less than ten minutes. He said without a clear direction it is hard to create a logo.

Lucas_24, that is similar to the second idea that I suggested before, with the exception that I was thinking of a rounded triangle outline with straight sides. Thanks for putting something similar up for visualization, as I'm not going for the prize either, just trying to get some ideas out there.... [Image: smile.gif]

If this helps, here is what I learned by hanging out in the Mozilla Firefox forums during their new icon creation days. They had alot of people there working on the new icon that did such very things for a living.

1. Everyone there agreed that logos should be kept "flexible", in that a good logo would seem well placed when used in a variety of situations. Anywhere from print advertising, to websites, to splash screens, to icons.

2. As I mentioned before, logos the use very similar colors or alot of shading are not conducive to being scaled down to a small size or being converted to a 16 color pallete for use as an icon.

3. A logo that has a lot of fine detail or intricate artwork can also be nearly impossible to scale down to a small size, and still be legible...

I am still quite impressed with the Firefox logo, as it was designed to use a very small color pallete and to be quite legible at low resolution, while still looking like a high-res high-color depth image... Excellent!

Good luck to you all again!

I have an idea that might take me a while to make look nice. But what I was thinking was having the letters tiled with all of the channel logos. But on second thought, you might have to get permission from them.....

Good to see this getting lots of attention. I'm sure we'll come up with something.

For some examples see http://www.usbuirt.com/overview.htm (I like the sagetv, tvedia and snapstream logo's - myhtpc also not too bad)

I also like the meedio logo http://www.meedio.com.

I'm no artist either, so I'll just give my idea of a logo to whoever can make it look nice [Image: smile.gif]

btw. it's suppose to look like a sat-dish / antenna, I made a simple vector version and a 3d version in auto cad.

Sub, based upon the examples in the USBUIRT link that you said you liked most, did you prefer a logo that spells out the whole word "GB-PVR" on a single line? Your logo that is on the USBUIRT site looks cool... Do you not like it, and want something different, or is something along those lines OK?

I dont really mind if its on a single line or not,  but I'd like a logo that looks cool on a white background (ie a web page) or a dark background (typically in a skin).

I think what I like about those logos, is the fact they all have a quite professional look to them. They all use a very specific looking font, and incorporate some small atistic extra or icon ( sage intersecting circles, snapstream stream in circle, tvedia remote, meedio cross/square). These 'artistic extras' would also make a good icon for the application.

Actually those examples are all about the size I'm interested in. They'd usually be shown about this size or slighly smaller. Bigger or smaller versions are just a bonus.
