Annoucing mvpcx2 for the Syabas NMT

I am pleased to announced the release into general public trial the mvpmcx2 client for the Syabas NMT platform. Thanks to Brainstormer, jksmurf, Sheik Yerbouti and of course sub for helping with the testing. Although we have not at all maximized the potential of the this platform, I think it is still quite useful with GB-PVR even at this early stage.

UJB, the short answer is right now mvpmcx2 provides a lot of the emulation mode functionality that is in mvpmc with the advantage that it is noticably faster and plays most supported HD media and digital video captures with ease. Unlike the mvp the firmware is also being improved signficantly to address shortcomings.

The future really depends on how far sub want to take this and what cooperation we get from Syabas. sub may wish to add to this and I will see if I can get Syabas to add there own comments.

I see in the startme script in your examples - it gives some TV types - are you able to explain what they do?

The PCH will be connected through HDMI - do I have to change the line to 60HZ?

I'd have to say it works pretty well. It gives you the same UI as you're used to with the MVP, but much quicker when navigating around. When you play video files it hands over to the NMT's native playback functions, which does a good job of playing all sorts of files, including highdef MPEG2 / H264 etc.

There are some limitations around live tv at this stage (having to stop to change channels), but hopefully these will be overcome with a bit of cooperation from manufacturer.

A damn good start though.

I am not going to be good at explaining this because the digital world is much more complex than analog and hopefully someone with more knowledge then me can make things clear. Three factors are involved in connecting your monitor and your PCH, the TV signal type, the encoding method and the connection type. I am trying to simplify these into the minimum number of command line options for the most number of people. I actually can't tell which countries use 50 or 60Mhz HDMI. Hopefully you monitor has some type of info button to tell what it normally uses like a computer monitor.

Hopefully as we learn more about the PCH we will be able to enumerate and determine the best quality automatically.

I was just wondering what the 720 means in the HDMI lines? (ie, is that part of the resolution to be used?)

I know that my set uses 60hz, so just editing the line would be OK?

Actually HDMI is part of the connection type and doesn't deal with lines. Both the TV signal and the encoding method deal with line. I said it was complex.

I would suggest trying

-m 720

and if you can't seem to get the bottom of the screen to look good

-m 720 --display=720x480

Ahh, of course - I was thinking of the play resolution - but all playback is passed back to the PCH, meaning it will use the resolution of the file and whatever output mode is set on the PH?

What I am trying to get at here, is that the menus etc will be displayed in 480/576 res, but if the video file is 1080p, then the PH will change resolution when it goes to play?

Actually the PCH is smarter than just using the file format, it will upconvert SD material to 1080p and downconvert HD material to SD without transcoding

And don't sorry a lot of people are interested in this information I think.
