Just added my name to the PCH wait list. Is there a link to the mvpmcx2 software?

Its a 3.5MB AVI file, recorded from my PCH, which shows me hold down a navigation key in the TV Guide. Wow!!...that is like 100% faster than the MVP!!....appears to be as quick/smooth as the native PC.

Yeah, it is fast. Its a little deceptive though, because the remote on the PCH isnt that good with how it handles repeats etc.

I actually had to put a lock on the keyboard loop because just holding down the down arrow would crash mvpmcx2. Note that GBPVR in mvpmode is not optimized for handling repeats either I found that it treats key presses and key releases as separate keys so I have to discard one of the (I choose the release). They've now agreed to talk to Sigma about it (chipset manufacturer, and author of the drivers that do the playback). At this stage I'd say its 50/50 whether our audio format will be supported. (we can look at a post-recording convert the audio format to something that can be heard, but it is still a problem for live tv)lchiu7 Wrote:Now that sounds cool. As a NZ'er waiting for HD it means I am guessing that gbpvr can record the streams okay but not requiring too much CPU load. Then the Popcorn Hour (I have also ordered one and it's winging its way to me soon I hope) can play them back just by mouting the drive on the PC using NFS?Yes (though you dont have to use NFS).

I have been watching the development of this for a while and first off let me say that I am more then ever impressed by the resourcefulness and talent that gathers here on the GBpvr forums. Secondly, I have seen and read here that the Syabas and PCH are different hardware. Is it possible to provide one post directing us where to purchase the correct hardware (the same used for this project's development) as well as a link to the software and/or a guide/tutorial to set it up? I know development for gbpvr tends to be pretty far ahead of what is available on the wiki and digging in the forums, but let's get a documentaion base for this thing. A lot of people have turned to gbpvr because the core program is easier to set up then any other system out there, I have not installed many plugins because of lack of an "idiot's guide". If I could be of some help in building documentation for the NMT or PCH i would gladly get involved. This seems like an exciting project and i just feel that all bases should be covered through centralized, organized documentation rather then forum digging. Let me know if I can help.

(we can look at a post-recording convert the audio format to something that can be heard, but it is still a problem for live tv) I have been trying another tack (I also have a PCH). That is record using gbpvr and playback using a PS3. I would serve up the files from the gbpvr machine using a DLNA server like Tversity. Live TV is not something that I use that often. My results are limited by the samples I have been able to obtain (I haven't installed a DVB-T card yet). Of the 3 samples I have got, the PS3 is able to play video on all of them with no sound. One of the samples, I can demux the audio and convert to AC3 and mux it back as a m2ts file and the PS3 can play that. But that's somewhat fiddly as you can imagine. At the moment it seems the only one box machine is a PC with gbpvr, a decent CPU, a video card that supports h.264 decoding and the Cyberlink H.264 codec. Larry |
