The version numbers that I am quoting are the numbers that are in the window title bar of the GUI. The version that I have now was downloaded about two hous ago and reports itself as 1.2.35. The earler version that was giving me wonky results reported itself as 1.2.4. (Not that I care about version numbers ! I'm grateful to you for a tool that does exactly what I want !)

I run my EPG updates manually because I have a dodgy Internet connection. I want to avoid a situation where my grabber can't connect and downloads nothing at all and I finish up with an empty EPG in GBPVR. If you are looking for things to add to the Enhancer, you might consider an "If grabber output is less than N megabytes, then stop" option.

While I'm hinting at what you might like to develop ... a gadget to do Series and Episode numbers fo existing recordings would be cute. For example, I might point the software at a folder in my Recording folder (or the Recordings folder itself, if I don't use sub-folders). For each file in the folder, the software would find the relevant entry in the GBPVR database and add the Series and Episode numbers to the sub-title in the database in the same way as the Enhancer does now for the sub-title in the xml file.

In any event, thanks for your good work.

Graham

Just for anyone else, 1.2.4 is earlier than 1.2.35 because 4 is less than 35....

I know that it's less than intuitive. But I only force a change of the auto incrementing Version number when it's REALLY obvious there's going to be confusion...

That seems like a function for the Manager. I know that many people haven't yet tried the Manager, but it is suppsoed to be a one stop control panel for everything EPG. That means I have to incorporate those little things into it.

The manager WOULD (not done yet) download data, and count the bits, and not proceed unless the XMLT File is large enough.

Couple of more ideas. I could add, retires and pings etc. What's so dodgy about your connection, maybe add some connection stabilization..

(In the old days of dial up, while my system would get it's email there would be a stall from the mail server, and my Dial on Demand would think it's not needed anymore and hangup. I had something then that would keep the connection open. Is your problem something like that?)

The new version of Enhancer and Manager ( in tandem) does that. Any entry in Recordings that may have been missed for one reason or another (I know of five and have set to catch them) gets caught on the next go around. And I also call Renamer during that phase too so that the recording get renamed.

I added that feature recently for my Ex wife. She recently upgraded from 99.12 to 1.2.9 and although she hadn't lost here recording schedule, (it was backed up) it was not reimported during upgrade. I manually upgraded and it was fine. Then I noticed that she had a lot of stuff in the database and Recoridng directory that was not Enhanced. So I wrote the function to 'go back in time'

Now if only I could inteface that flux capacitor into my car...

Of course it is ... I apologise ... My broken brain just assumed that "35" meant three and a half rather than the more obvious thirty-five. I need to spend less time with computers!

Drat you Red Baron...

I've added the feature where if there is data in TVdb.com it will overwrite the description that is was downloaded with the original xmltv file.

On the config Episodes sub form, check 'Overwrite TVdb...'

This will help those that don't get a description at all! (A couple of Aussie grabbers didn't give me a description, and I understand others don't either)

And I compared a few before and afters and the tvdb description is better

BUT

I've just spent hours making the Enhancer faster. This new feature just slowed it down.... (Hence the Drat!)

And For Star Trek: The Next Generation, the description on TVdb is JUST the stardate as opposed to "Picard stubbed his toe after 'Q' placed a chair in his way and turned out the lights..."

I'm sure there are others like that, but on the whole the improvement is considerable. And as I said it's really good for those that don't even get descriptions (OK good for those shows that are in the TVdb.com database that is...)

The description overwrite is trying to work but it is overwriting the same description over and over in the wrong shows and episodes. Seems to get the first one right and then uses that description for awhile then gets one right and repeats.

That sound slike I'm not clearing the variable in between records. I'll check and release a patch

Edit: Found the problem and fixed it...

Here's a test version. It includes a msgbox that will display original and replaced text as it cycles through each record. You should see a great many of the records with only the original, but then you'll see the ones with both.

As you scoot past those, you should be seeing more without the replaced description...

This is what is going into your XMLTV file. But only if you commit, (remember) if you don't commit and then update the epg, you won't see the changes...

BTW, you'll have to task kill that unless you want to go through all your records one by one...

I quadruple checked. The version that's up on the wiki right now is working.

My suspicion is that you didn't commit the data when you tested...
