the biggest problem with tvs is you cant take them home for a test drive

I just bought a 42" 1080 "full HD" VS42L from costco with a coupon for about $950. I was really worried that it was less than the other brands, but since you CAN take them back after a test drive, I got it. I love it. I am not sure what you get for paying up to 2 grand more. The blacks are pretty good, but not great on some shows, but for most things, I just sit in amazement with how good it looks. This was my first step into HD and I never want to go back. The SD stuff does look great on it though as well. My only gripe is that it only has one svid input and it is on the side. I hooked network PC to the PC input and the picture and gbpvr is awsome. Surfing the net on a 42" from the sofa is cool. The picture is good off the MVP also.

Yeah, you'd think SOMEONE on staff would know enough about TVs to at least know to feed them a decent signal and then do some butt-kicking to make it happen. Especially with TVs being a fairly high-profit item. Places have done it forever, though. I think such things greatly contributed to the bad stigma of rear-projection CRT because very few of them ever looked all that impressive out of the box, but even a quick calibration after 30 or so hours of break-in, and they'd be awesome. So they'd be in the store, set on 100% brightness and 100% contrast, and even if fed a good signal would look iffy due to never having gotten even a five-minute calibration. So sad.
I bet Michael Bay uses GBPVR because it's awesome:

I looked at more expensive LCDs/Plasmas but the quality difference did not justify the price difference.

I agree, the Vizio is a good quality price ratio to get into the HDTV market without breaking the bank. As we all know the prices keep dropping for the so call higher end products. What was once hi-end is now low end after 2-3 years. I know many people buy based on high black ratio, but why spend extra 3 grand for this difference is beyond me.
