As a beta tester, I've had this for a bit and must say, the update went smooth and quicker than many would think. However, I had always hoped I'd see more 'umph' in front of my eyes. Not a whole lot of difference though I have seen boot times a shade faster and network file transfers faster. Nothing else noticeable except that it broke Acronis Disc Director and they don't have a fix for it yet. Sad

Yay! One or two more service packs and I'll be ready to give Vista a try. Until then, my 2005 Compaq laptop with XP has very good job security. Big Grin

After my first 24 hours, so far so good. Times have changed so much, I don't spend a paranoid week wondering finding out how others are doing, the 450MB download happens successfully in 10 minutes, the install takes half an hour (with not much progress going in in that progress bar mind you), and things actually seem to work as expected.

In Microsoft's defense, which I usually do not do... the 450mb file is probably a compressed CAB file. So it's probably a little larger than 450mb Big Grin

Well so far the service pack provided a need for me to reinstall my Photosmart drivers and my sound drivers. Both were broken after installing the service pack. Not impressed so far.

I had to re-install my sound card drivers too. They would cut out whenever there was disk activity.

Considering the file is 450(ish) meg, it doesn't actually mean you will be installing the entire service pack. If you have been updating Vista regularly, then you will already have many of the updates included in the service pack, the service pack only installs what it needs too. If on the other hand you haven't bothered keeping Vista up to date, then it's gonna take longer to install.

FWIW, a buddy of mine installed SP1 RC on his laptop and noticed a huge boost in speed. I had installed it on a really fast PC and noticed no difference (although I never really thought it was that slow except for network speed, that sucked). Friday installed SP1 on a desktop with a single core A64 3000+ with 1GB Ram and noticed a bump in speed. So I think their speed claims are for slower hardware.
