PVRX2 always working sweet using VMR9 FSE.
But then decided to experiment with HD videos (again), on my rather ageing rig (Athlon XP2600, Geforce 5950)
Was suprised to find that, using COREAVC, I can play HD mkv's fine. But the old nemesis returned - screen tearing, yuck.
For the hell of it I installed .Net 3.5 and tried using EVR in PVRX2. Another suprise - the screen tearing 90% gone, and all video/TV looks pretty good (despite loosing hardware acceleration in EVR).
However EVR is not quite the holy grail. If I pause or FF/RW a DVD (rip) PVRX2 just freezes up, and will not respond to remote. However if I right-click on the screen, after a long pause, it goes back to the DVD menu, then if I select play on the remote it goes back to where I left off - very odd! Changed the DVD config option to 'Use DVD chapter skip', and that works fine instead of FF/RW, but pause still the same issue.
So am I alone in this odd DVD behaviour using EVR? BTW I have the Nativeutilities patch dated 26 Nov 2007, and am using Purevideo for vid & aud and DVD navigator. If I use Intervideo or Nvidia navigator, I can't play ripped DVD's as they seem to always look for a disc in the drive.

I have exactly the same problem. FSE works fine, switch to EVR and DVDs play fine but FF and pause cause PVRX2 to crash. Fresh set of logs attached - after firstly playing a DVD with FSE then switching to EVR and crashing.

Any help greatly appreciated because EVR is a definite improvement.

Thanks.

So 3 of us now.

Same problem on 1.2.9. Can't use EVR - DVD crashes on FF or pause.

Sub... 3's a crowd Wink

Me too, just tried installing .NET 3.0 and 3.5 and using EVR with the aspect ration patch. Works fine until I press FF, then freezes and I need to kill PVRX2.

I might as well throw my name in also as having this exact problem. FF and pause freezes GBPVR when using EVR on a machine running XP.

I finnally got around to trying this today and I cant reproduce it. Using the EVR renderer I can pause/play or FF/RW DVDs. Also, did you have the 'short skip instead of FF/RW' enabled? I did during my testing. I am on Vista though. EVR isnt offically supported by Microsoft on XP, so might not be much we can do about it if all you guys are running XP.

I cant see anything obvious in Phils logs attached above, but can you other guys reproduce the problem and post your logs also? I'll see if there is any common theme in the logs.

Thanks Sub, I had a look at my logs after it froze (and I had to cancel PVRX2) but there was really nothing to see after the point where it started playing the DVD - it just seems to stop doing anything at all, so nothing goes to the logs. Happy to do it again and post if you think it'll help.

However.... I then changed my Video decoder from NVidia PureVideo to Gabest MPV Decoder Filter (still using the NVIDIA Purevideo Audio decoder, because it does AC3 and DTS well over my on-board SPDIF)... and hey presto! it all seems to work. Can occasionally be a bit jumpy and slow to catch up if I FF and pause quickly many times in succession, but no longer freezes, and certainly quite usable.

So In my case at least, it seems to be a combination of EVR under XP and PureVideo that's causing the problems (don't have Vista yet so can't try that). Also I've seen a couple of comments about EVR and PureVideo problems in other PVR software when I googled it.

Hope this helps soemone else. I'll try MPV Decoder Filter for a week or so and see how it goes, and post the results back here.

Cheers.

Ok great - glad you found a way around it. The NVidia PureVideo decoder seems to be a problematic.

Interesting, I'm using ATI and have the same problem. I'll try an alternative.
