I used Skip Tool to edit a bunch of movies I recorded off cable. I'm getting the hang of it, and it works great.

I transcoded them using the default settings, no changes. I can play the files in VLC with no problem, but when I view them through Movie Wiz, I get sound but just a black screen. (I do see the ff/rw buttons and time bar OSD.)

The sound sounds like it cut out the commercials correctly. What am I missing?

I haven't tried playing through regular Video yet. I can tomorrow.

Are you transcoding to an AVI? If so you probably don't have the correct AVI codec to play it back.

Interesting. VLC can play it on the same box that Movie Link can't.

Also, if I got through Movie Link from the MVP, I can play the video.

I'll have to troll around for codecs.

Got a Codec pack. Fixed the problem with the transcoded movies and can watch those through Movie Wiz. However, recordings that haven't been transcoded do not work now. So, I'm thinking the codec pack overwrote the settings.

That's my fault I know, but how can I clean it up?

I'm still unclear whether these are mpegs or avis, and is movie link, movieWiz?
If it is mpeg files that won't play, then install your mpeg codec again. If it is avi's, I think the divx package should handle it.

Yes, Movie Wiz, hadn't had my coffee yet.

The movies in Movie Wiz, at least the new ones, are AVI, transcoded through Skip Tool.

The recordings are MPEG, just plain recordings done with the default GBPVR settings, encoded by the on chip encoders.

So it sounds like the avi codecs are ok. For pvrx2 what do you have the video decoder set to? Can you try other codecs here?

I uninstalled the codec pack. What's a good codec to use with the AVIs? And where can I get it?

Thanks. I found another one (I'll try to find the link) that was just the divx codec, and it worked.

I uninstalled the pack, and regular recordings went back to normal. I installed the divx codec and all the files were playing.
