ati x1600 or what ever they are
nvidia 7600 is about as good as you can get for agp now
the price of agp cards almost amkes it not worth upgrading pcie cards are half the price
but i know you dont want to spend to much
try a different audio decoder ac3 filter or mpv filter or similar sounds funny but it can make a big difference on jumpy playback issues
Pretty sure I am using Nvidia purevideo but it is a pay for "util"
I haven't yet tried cyber as I had nvidia from a previous htpc setup. To get an idea of your graphics card temps you could see how close you can get the back of your fingers to the heatsink, I would expect it to be warm to hot for normal operation but if very hot your card is struggling
AGP is expensive now but trademe and ebay are options. I used to run a fx5200 and that was okayish, try for a 6 or 7 series if going nvidia, I am unsure about the ati range

what works on one machine is shit on another so no right or wrong just what works for you
(like i said earlier i am using nvidia for audio and cyberlink for video and am happy, no lip sync issues or jitters.
yet if i use the nvidia for both i was finding the dvb stuff crap
and if i used cyberlink for both it froze after fast forwarding)
