I can tell, you are all experienced (and thirsty) travelers.
I'm always thirsty too but not so much a traveler.Big Grin

Many years ago, I did a quite a lot of travelling in France, Germany and Eastern US while working for a multi-national - it didn't take long to figure out how to use the mini-bar...

Which raises two questions

1. Why don't they price the contents to encourage you to use the mini-bar in the manner it was designed to be used? (Or, are GB-PVR users the only ones that use a mini-bar in the 'optimal' manner?)

2. Why do they insist on filling up the entire mini-bar so that you cannot possibly use it to store anything of a personal nature, without first removing some of their content (and presumably making it harder for housekeeping to keep track of)?

Just ask for the contents of the minibar removed, it's what I do, then i fill it with stuff that I will eat/drink....

Quickest way to get your beer/wine cold in the first place is to wrap it in a damp cotton cloth and leave in bright sunshine until the cloth is just about dry - sadly not always successful in Scotland Sad - it's to do with the something-or-other of evaporation.

I just did the sink+ice thing a couple of months ago. No attached bar! No mini-bar! Ice machine down the hall was a real life saver. Open up a can of mixed nuts and throw in a bag of M&M's (from mini-mart bought the beer from)......Crunchy+salty+sweet+beer=happy fatman.

Ahhhh.....I digress.

Quote: Well if Tipstir was around he'd give you some long convoluted tale about running gbpvr off your laptop into the hotel tv set, using a usb freeview system which by the time you had set it up you'd be ready to pack your bags and leave

I'll have to admit, I used the laptop and EWA to stream a recording last night, haha! unlimited free broadband - the fools! (well, when I say 'free' I am sure it's costed in to the price - but the boss pays that) (forgot my svideo cable, so had to watch on the laptop)

No minibar in this motel, but there are several pubs / restaurants around it, so I'll go and get decent food / drink tonight - don't like going into pubs too much by myself, sitting in the corner, being stared at by the small town locals.

I have never thought of replenishing a mini-bar really, usually they have drinks etc which are in odd sizes so you can't replace them easily.
