I have the ability (through my firewall) to send a magic packet to my pcs and wake them on demand. I will be away on a two week honeymoon in August, and would like the control to shutdown the pc when there is nothing on tv to record for a while, and just start it back up when needed. I do not trust hibernate/suspend modes on a desktop as a lot of things can go wrong (worst off al network controllers often fail to restart, locking me out of my pc remotely). So I would like a button somewhere in the admin page (to require a login) that would allow me to shutdown the pc. That way I can either schedule an event on my firewall box to wake the pc before recording begins, or do it manually.
Thanks for the consideration, and let me know if this is feasible...
Dave
btw - this would have to be present in the old version of the EWA, as the CSS does not work on my cell phone's Opera browser (nor in the Opera mini). Only the classic pages work.

I use a program called ShutdownIT or similar - but can't find a link to it (amongst the hundreds of similar progs on the net)

It enables me to go to a website in Opera Mini and shutdown / standby the PC - as well as reboot, send messages, lock work station etc)

I'll get the author of the app when I get home, and that should narrow the search somewhat. The prog can have a password requested when an action is about to be performed for some security.

It's pretty good that your PC can wake from a full-shutdown, I think mine will only wake using standby & hibernate. (and only then when the router decides it wants to pass the WOL packets through)

that'd be great, as I will be using my phone for the majority of my remote access. shutting down is the only feature I really desire. As I already mentioned my firewall PC (it is really a freebsd box, much more than a firewall) can send magic packets that wake my other pcs 100% of the time.

Finally Found the util name (rebuilt the PC, and couldn't remember at all)

It's called SwitchOff, and you can download from
ftp://ftp.sunet.se/pub/simtelnet/win95/util/swoff19.exe

As I said, the interface can be accessed by Opera Mini, but it's also WAP capable, so your stock phone browser should do it also. (maybe)

Just set up the remote control using some port, and set a password if you want one.

Cheers

excellent find.. thank you. I use opera mini on my phone (though it has full opera mobile as default browser) because it works better and remembers my settings.. and this program works great! forwarded a port through my router, and bam! shutdown via phone.
thanks again.
