i was just wondering what plugins people want to see.

my wishlist
- voice over ip chat
- video over ip chat
- irc chat
- some kind of streaming video (gbpvr can currently play a streaming file, but it needs to download the entire file first).
- settings (in progress)
- auto update (in progress, probably going to be combined into settings).
- P2P (talks going on).
- a good email plugin (with basic send/recieve, doesnt need to render html, just display plain text, with onscreen keyboard).

Nice list [Image: smile.gif]

What crossed my mind when reading your ideas was, that it would be cool to use GB-PVR as the basis for things in the area of home automation.

You obviously enter a whole new area of challanges by that, most obviously interfacing with hardware. But something _relatively_ easy would probably be video surveillance using web cams. As a first step one could think about supporting devices that are self-contained in that they come with their own web server. In Germany we have a company Mobotix specializing in this, have a look at this

As for the email plugin there is a PIM plugin that integrates with outlook I had plans if I can get the time to extend it for other pop3 accounts and sending mail.

i'm currently developing a pop3 email plugin...i have plans (down the road) to do send, but the initial release will just do read. already have it so i can read mail from my two gmail accounts...but it's still a ways off from even an alpha release.

pov.

EDIT: oh, for the send, instead of the onscreen keyboard, i'm looking to use the predictive cellphone dictionary idea, where you would press, let's say 4, 3, 5, 5, 6 for "hello" and 9, 6, 7, 5, 3 for "world"

-How about IMAP support?
-Web or Netcam (Axis) support, Axis streams as Motion JPEG
-X10 home automation hooks? take a search and look at homeseer
-Movie (DVD) database, showing what DVDs I have, artwork, and if it's been loaned out, would be
good for tracking saved shows or episodes on home burned DVDs

my $0.02 (USD)

yeah sorry jorm, i just dont think thats a very good plugin. the best email thing ive seen was a simple little python script for xbmc. it didnt allow you to send any emails, but the interface was clean and simple. i just want send/recieve, i dont want notes, appointments etc, i want something more basic. PIM has to many things, using outlook is a good idea, its better than keeping the password stored in plain text. just needs to be redesigned.

I'm (also) working on a pop3-reader-plugin. It already does it job, but some time needs to be spend on config.xml, skin.xml and scrolling through text. I'll publish it in a few weeks.

MSN Plugin would be cool. A Foobar2000 plugin that lets you use Foobar from within GBPVR without having to launch Foobar seperately would be cool too.

As I use the pvr-350 for output I'd like to see a avi to mpeg2 transcoding plugin [Image: smile.gif] Either in form of realtime transcoding like the hauppauge software for the mvp, or maybe just a simple plugin with a file browser where you select the files you want converted, and then an option to delete the mpeg file after you have watched it.

In any case I assume the plugin would just be a front end for an external encoder.
