Sorry if this is covered somewhere. I did a brief search but couldn't find it. I installed an HVR-1600 not too long ago and haven't recorded much OTA HD stuff but the couple of recordings I've made look like they're DVR-MS files. I was under the impression GBPVR didn't use this format. Is this something to do with the broadcaster or the OTA HD format? All my SD recordings are still just regular mpegs.

It's not really a complaint just a curiosity more then anything.

I've also got an HVR-1600 card and any recording made from the tuner on it, shows up in a DVR-MS file. Any recording made from the audio/video inputs is an MPEG file. I haven't gotten to the point of wanting to convert any of the DVR-MS files, but there is a program out there that will do that. Also, VideoReDo will edit them and convert them to MPEG.
IBM P4, 3Ghz with 1GB RAM
500GB Storage (on this one), HVR-1600 capture card
ATI-1050 256MB, and more as I think it up!
OK, I finally bought a HD TV. Glad I had some stuff recorded to watch!

I think (and I'm basing this on UK DVB, not ATSC) you need to change your mux. The standard mux in win XP records to DVR-MS. If you register (e.g) the cyberlink mux and select it in config it records to MPEG.

GB-PVR uses DVR-MS by default for BDA recording sources unless the stream is H.264 (I think). It can be changed by changing the "BDA Multiplexer" setting in the "Misc2" tab of Config.

GBPVR may use the container but it does not use any of the DRM that the container supports. Wink

That's good to know. I wasn't too worried about it. I've never had a problem with DRM issues and PVR recordings I just had never seen a recording from GBPVR that was in that format so it surprised me.

I've never had any problems with the dvr-ms files my 1600 produces so I've left things alone. Every program I've used so far (really not that many) to copy or cut has not given me any problems.
