I just read this thread in fascination. I have been very frustration because I have been unable to get Microsoft DVR-MS to work for me with any decoder, but I had rapid success using the some of the muxes provides.

Now I have a large number of combination of muxes and decoders. I'm using an HVR-1600 tuner.

I only saw one comment in this thread about a mux they preferred. I see some chatter about cyberlink version that may be better then others. Are there any lessons learned to help newbies other then try ever combination and see what you like? Or is there some agreement that regardless of my hardware some of the muxes and decoders are the better ones.

I'm not the most experienced, as I learned (am learning) from the others here (thanks Imagn and Sub), but the best thing for me with my 1600-HVR was:
-use Microsoft DVR-MS as MUX
-install the K-lite codec back and during the install under video (mpeg2?) pick the first ffdshow option.
-don't try to convert to any format, leave raw
-buy a LARGE drive for the recordings.

I may say as a disclaimer, that what works for one person, may not work for another due to hardware/software differences.

Microsoft DVR-MS should work fine though, that was the one that worked immediately for me. maybe reinstall the lates Hauppauge drivers from their website and try again.?

Thanks for the reply. I found that ppMpgMux(5.0.1228).ax using the Microsoft Mpeg2 drivers that came with Vista gave me a beautiful picture when running VMR9 exclusive or EVR. VMR9 custom results weren't as good. I didn't try all the combinations after finding this one.

I have tried quite a few of the muxes that have been listed here:
-Intervideo
-Cyberlink
-ATI
-MS DVR

To date the MS-DVR is the only one that i can get consistent recordings on. Everything records well under this method. The only gotcha is that since its not MPEG - i cannot immediately burn to DVD using BURNDVDX2 - or I cannot stream it to our laptop which is set up as a GBPVR client. I believe that the mux has to be MPEG2 in order to stream live tv and recordings in that manner.

I have multiple sat cards and not sure if all the above muxes behave when multiple recordings happening at the same time.

I was using ATI last night to test out - and initally it looked good. But I discovered last night there was actually a stutter present that got more noticable as i was aware of it.

I have legit copies of PowerProducer and PowerDirector - so i installed them both in the hope i would get a more reliable cyberlink mux. However i have had issues with that also - in that some recordings just stop for no reason. I have had a 90 min show only record 45 mins without any forseeable reason.

Not sure what my options are now - but if anyone has any suggestions on how to problem solve - id be grateful.

I have unregistered the mpgmux.ax several times however it still shows up ? 3 Times infact, I have used the following at a dos prompt and it tells me it removed it successfully.

I don't recongise that syntax. Is it a valid alternative to "regsvr32 /u C:\Program Files\Devnz\GBPVR\mpgmux.ax" , or have I got hold of the wrong end of the stick? Also, wouldn't it be in C:\Windows\system32 ??

Most likely you had previous versions of mpgmux.ax that registered different names and GUIDs. Rename the file to mpgmux.ax.bak and then use something like the Codec Tweak Tool to remove the bad entries. http://majorgeeks.com/K-Lite_Codec_Tweak...d5738.html

You can then remove the .bak extension and re register it if you want to do so.

I guess no one did, and the website is still down (or down again). GBPVR crashed for me, the only way to get it to work was to delete the entire directory, and I stupidly had all the mux located in that directory as well.
