Is there anyway that a sticky can be created under each plug-in forum that provides an overview of each plug-in? It is very confusing to me and I'm sure many others what XRecord, Music Library, etc. are exactly and why we would want to install them. Some are self explanatory while other plug-ins leave no indication of their functionality. I think there would be a much wider audience if you could do so. Additionally, the wiki for each usually doesn't provide this info either.

Thanks in advance.

Actually that's what the wiki is for... The docs and wiki pages are mostly written by the developers and uploaded to the wiki.

The support forums are for the support of the apps.

I know that I won't be doing it for my stuff as that would mean two places I have to update if I update my programs.

If you think that the wiki could be improved, suggestions are readily accepted...

Yes, it's far too easy to come here looking for information. There has been a lot of work done on the wiki and I guess it could be made more prominent here and on the home page?

I must admit I can see this from both sides having played with plug-ins not all that long ago. I do think each plug-in forum should have a sticky right at the top with a minimum of a link to their wiki page. Having said that while I don't have a forum of my own for my Blue-Retro-SHV skin (don't need one as there aren't enough questions/answers) I did find when I added the description from the wiki to the top of the first message in the thread the number of downloads per week went up by about 90 to 100%

I have to also agree with this statement for a lot of them! I think a lot of programmers have problems writing in simple terms understandable by a new user what their program does & even how to install it. When I write something like this I always "try" to step back & "try" to think like a new user that has no idea at all.....not easy to do though :p

Sorry, I hope you didn't take my post as being too confrontational.

As I spend most of my time on the forums trying to troubleshoot different things (including plug-ins), I often look here for new plug-ins to install. It was just a suggestion to make it easier for people on the forums to get a brief overview of the various plug-ins. A sticky wouldn't necessarily have to be updated everytime a plug-in update or new version is released. I think just a quick statement of what the plug-in does and it's benefits would be welcomed by all. After all, the basic functionality remains the same no matter what improvements are made, hence you wouldn't have to updated everytime a new version is released. More just a general sentence or two of what it does.

Maybe it just sounds like I am being lazy, but I would think a sticky on each would just lead to wider adoption of these great tools.

Thanks for the additional input...I think you got my point across better than I did Smile

Another point is actually getting all of us to do it...

But, in the end it isn't all that tough to open two browsers, one forum and one wiki...

Isn't that what messages like this suggesting what the user thinks is a better way are all about, to get people to think about things, whether they do anything about it or not is up to them!

Agree (or two tabs) but often FINDING the plug-in on the wiki can be a mission in itself! And a reason for a lot of people to just say "I can't be bothered waisting the time" looking for this!

The NMT wiki entry is a perfect example of what can happen, since it is already obsolete month after it was created which is why I like a sticky it is more "in your face"

THat what I mean by 'suggestions are welcome'. If a person can't ZProcess for example, I would make sure the wiki was modded so it's easier to find...
