multisource epg integration

Have not seen this mentioned in the Wiki hence this post.

Let's say you have a Freview DVB-T capture card and a Freesat DVB-S capture card. With Freeview you can get the epg from the transmissions. Freesat epg is not currently supported in GBPVR so you use a grabber and write an XML file from the Radio Times site data. Is GBPVR capable of sorting out a "master epg" from the two data sources, choose the right capture source for recording and sort out any conflicts?

I'm asking because the last time I tried this I ended up with duplicate entries in the Programme Guide for all channels which were transmitted on both Freeview and Freesat.

The channel names between the 2 sets of data must be exactly the same.
Then it should display each once on the tv guide.

I'm using the XML data from Digiguide via Alan Birtles XML Reader, I generate a list of channels for my total Channel list. this file is called epgdata.xml (I'm great at naming files arn't I! )

I have three capture sources, PVR350 (connected to a sky box) and Nova T500.

I load the same file into all three sources aka epgdata.xml.

In the freeview, I only 'enable' the channels which are on Freeview and map the channels to the scanned channels (via the config tool)

When you save and exit and return to PVRX2, I get One copy of BBC 1 (in TV Guide) and three tuners to record on....

I do pretty much the same thing, use XMLTVGUI to load in the channels from RT along with a file for some odd channels which are not lited on the RT site.

I then get a ListingData.XML file which contains everything for all tuners.

Then go into each capture source, one by one, and select this same master file for each source as the XMLTV file.

You will then see ALL channels listed for each of the sources so you can disable the ones that are not available on a particular source.

Is it possible to do this the other way round? i.e. use the broadcast Freeview epg data for the DVB-S Freesat capture card? I don't think there are any channels on Freesat that are not on Freeview. I'm thinking it's simpler not to bother with a grabber and have to access the RT site.....

Well it is possible..... but it means working inside the database to 'transfer' the EPG from DVB-T to DVB-S. I've not done that as I have Freeview and sky here...but it's possible. Also I on freeview I found the EPG download to ages to complete vs the XML radio times reader which did it in about 1 minute.

In theory you could use the dvbtoxmltv utility posted elsewhere on the forum to capture the EPG to an xmltv file, then have all the capture sources use that xmltv file. That is what I do in NZ, but in reverse, since only our DVB-S system carries the 7 day EPG and our DVB-T system only carries now/next.
