Is anyone using mc2xml with mythtv? mythfilldatabase always fails for me with the xml file mc2xml is making. this is the error I get in mythweb:

Quote:Last mythfilldatabase run started on 2008-09-07 11:19 and ended on 2008-09-07 11:21. mythfilldatabase ran, but did not insert any new data into the Guide. This can indicate a potential problem with the XML file used for the update.
There's guide data until 2008-09-20 19:25 (13 days).

tomorrow would be 12 days, the next day 11, and so on. zap2xml still works fine (for the moment). thanks for any help.

Are you using the "-L" option? If so, it's not part of the xmltv.dtd spec.

no, I'm just using the mc2xml command straight (or with the -f option when testing), and mythfilldatabase with --file. I then ran mythfilldatabase with -v important, but it didn't return much of anything.

You'll probably need to contact the author then or find out why exactly mythfilldatabase is failing. I can't help beyond that as I don't use either one. It may be possible that mythfilldatabase expects an older version of the xmltv.dtd

Contacting the author is the first thing I did. I thought he might be interested in a potential bug. He just said he never uses mythtv, so go ask somewhere else. That's after I also donated to him for zap2xml. some gratitude, huh? :p

To be honest, its not unreasonable for him to expect you to do the leg work if the author doesnt use mythtv.

Surely mythfilldatabase produces some log file, or can be run in verbose mode, to get more info about it doesnt like about the file produced by mc2xml. If you're able to give him this sort of info, I'm sure he'd help you work out the cause.

For me the xmltv file produced by mc2xml is a lot bigger than the one produced by zap2xml with more channels and details. I've had no problems with it though, maybe you should try limiting to just 1 channel first with the mc2xml.chl file?

Also you said you donated for one piece of software that you said is working fine but now you expect the author who wrote another piece of software to also install mythtv just for you because you can't narrow down the issue and still aren't very specific about what the problem is? Do you consider that it could be a mythtv problem? Why not ask the mythtv authors? And then you come for help with mythtv on a gbpvr forum? Not meaning to be harsh, but maybe you are the one a bit ungrateful. A bit of the "center-of-the-world" syndrome I think...

Well to be fair I sent a lot of debug info when I wrote to him. I was under the impression it was the same author. No need to bash me because the software is buggy and the author is not interested in assuring that it works in all cases it's intended for. So yes, if he wants his software to be used by a lot of people I guess I do expect him to install mythtv to test it, since that is one of the things for which people are reasonably going to use it. It's called having a testbed. But maybe he's not interested in that, for all I know.

And of course the mythtv people are not interested in the least in helping with projects like these, because they want everyone to donate to the pay service, whatever it's called. This just seemed like one of the more knowledgable forums around, and since it is an mc2xml thread, I thought I would try it. Sorry if I offended anyone.

But it's not really a big deal to me. I'll just keep using zap2xml. mc2xml can keep suffering from bugs when mythtv users attempt to use it, if that's what he's cool with. Shutting out a potentially large user base doesn't make much sense to me, but it's not my software to make that decision. I tried my best to report it and debug it myself. There's not much more I can do.
