Not sure if I am posting this in the right forum.

I have a universal LG remote control that came with my telly. Curently the LG Remote used to operate the Tv and the Hifi. The Comrp remote is used to work GBPVR. Is it possible to use the LG remote in place of my Compro Videomate reomote?

If so do I have to enter a manufacturer remote control code for the Compro code? When i set up the remote control for the Hifi, I had to enter a 3digit code into the remote so that i would send the correct commands to the HiFi. If so where can I find the code for Compro?

Currently the Compro remote works with GBPVR using HIP. But due to the WAF it would be better just to use the one remote to do everything.

Many thanks

Ah, the dream. One remote to control everything, and easy enough for everyone to use.

If your LG remote is not a "learning" remote, you are probably out of luck. However, I once contacted the manufacturer of an inexpensive universal remote, and they gave me a code for a device that was not included in the owners manual. It's worth a phone call or email.

Failing that, I'd suggest purchasing an inexpensive learning remote, and take the time to teach the wife how to use it.

I'm in the states. I picked up one from a local Radio Shack based upon this thread. It was on sale for $15 (let's see, that's about 4 gallons of gas, not too bad).

The one I mention in that link is a learning remote, so you can copy functions off the old remote. It works as a Media Center devices. The device manual has the code on Page 22, under 'Video - Accessory' listed as Media center PC. (That code is also listed on the next line for Microsoft.)

My Hauppauge remote works with it, so I believe that many of the 'Media Center' compatible remotes will be the same. Or start from there and program the nonworking functions.

Not the cheapest, but I wouldn't trade my Logitech Harmony for anything else. All my many devices are controlled by it. It has programmable LCD menus (usb connection) & custom buttons and macros. It can even run my desk fan. And did I mention high WAF?

The key to this remote is setting up modes...

TV - Display is Video 1, Channels are on TV, amp is TV.
PVR - Display is Video 2, Channels are on PC, amp is PC.

Pressing the mode button changes all the settings you program, and then the remote knows to send volume buttons to the amp, channel buttons to the TV/PC, etc.

No GBPVR build or home theater is complete without one IMO.

I agree, the Harmony is great. I really enjoyed mine... for two weeks, until my son stepped on it and cracked the display!

I couldn't spend another $80 (or more) for a replacement, and Logitech won't sell me an LCD display, so the $15 unit suggested by mkenyon2 was the best alternative. The money I saved can put 16 gallons in my tank. (...sounds like maybe 4 gallons for HairyHaggis. Ouch!)
