UltraXMLTV runs manually, freezes when GBPVR calls it

For the time being, make sure your GB-PVR recording service is set to Interact with Desktop. (Again, I don't believe this is the problem, but who knows?)

I couldn't figure out how to do this. Can you point me to where this can be done?

These two batch files I've included assumes that your files are in the paths that you have written in the examples you sent me before. They are NOT in the suggested location from the wiki, that's for sure.... (Just WHAT are we gonna do with all the neat freaks, anyway? :confused: )

I'm definitely not neat. If you could see my desk right now, you wouldn't associate that word with me.

I long ago decided to try to keep data files separate from the program files. This was to make backups easy. I would have a "Files" directory from the root and just back up Files and everything below it. I know application developers generally like to put their data in a subdirectory to the application but that makes backing up the data a nightmare. If an application allows me to pick another directory for its data other than its default, I put it under the Files directory and I have a structure that makes it easy to find the desired data.

For the EPG, XMLTV, and UltraXMLTV stuff, I decided it was sort of in between being pure data and applications so I created a "Programs" directory on the C: drive. This at least made them a lot easier to find for me rather than scrolling down through the excessively long "Program Files" directories.

Also, I'm going to have to revisit explaining the Season and Episode Numbers and I'll have to fix something too. Yeah you should be able to put it wherever you like, but it seems like it's only working when you 'prepend to subtitle' (This is selected in the config episode screen not the main screen.

I tried the steps you wanted me to take first, forgetting this step. The result was that the episode descriptions did not get updated. I must say though that any time I get to read through all the Chuck Norris based episode descriptions I get a chuckle.

I then went and changed EpNum on the main screen and requested the EPG Update from the System screen in GBPVR and it seemed to work. I got the episode information for 14 days out.

I then went in and changed Season and Episode in the Config Episodes screen, which you told me to do in the first place. I changed the automatic EPG update to be on the next hour. That will be in approx 10 minutes so I will see how it works under the "normal" method of execution.

Assuming you are on XP:

- right-click My Computer and select Manage
- open Services and Applications
- select Services
- double-click GB-PVR Recording Service
- click the Log On tab
- click the "Allow service to interact with desktop" box
- click OK
- right-click GB-PVR Recoding Service and select Restart

I ran into GBPVR Recording Services problems where if two programs were scheduled to be rec orded simultaneously, only one would get recorded. I restarted the recording services and it seemed to correct but not really. Today I rebooted to see if that clears up things.

The reason I said I'm not out of the woods is because by setting the RcordingServices to "interact with the desktop" there is the side effect of having a window for the MVP Controller stay on the desktop. I have both an MVP and Popcornhour so this controller is necessary. My problem is that by having it always on the desktop, even when it's minimized, the likelihood of my accidentally closing it are pretty good. When the recording services did not interact with the desktop that window would not be visible.

I hope that running in Interactive with Desktop mode is a temporary "fix" until the real problem can be sorted out.

Does it work with Interacting with Desktop? Then it's not a temporary fix. Just about all of my software requires it. Fortunately I've solved the MVP controller popup...

Use MVPServerChecker.

I don't have a Popcorn hour, so I don't know if it will hide Popcorn popups (maybe it's a kernel thing :p ) but if it doesn't take care of them too, let me know. It will be a quick fix after I consult with some others...

Hi,
I've followed LewE from his thread in the main support forum. Basically, I was seeing intermittent failures of UpdateEPG.bat to run automatically, and I traced it to Ultra. Before posting here, I wanted to get my facts straight, so I set up/checked some logging and read the applicable threads here.

One suggestion was to run the current version of Ultra and allow the recording service to interact with the desktop. I checked and was running an older version of Ultra - and had not enabled desktop interaction. After updating and enabling the interaction, the result is that intermittent failures have become reliable failures every time. Manual runs work fine. Automatic scheduled runs always fail.

I find Ultra stuck in memory. It runs auto at 1:00 AM, I killed the task at 10:00 AM, It runs Ultra twice, and it got stuck the second time, so I killed it again in memory, then the batch file finished.I suppose I could try running with the Windows scheduler instead of automatically, but I thought I'd post to let you know what I'm seeing.

I'm "neat" too as in I do not run in default directories. All my GBPVR stuff is beneath c:\Graf. GBPVR is in c:\Graf\gbpvr. My XML download is in c:\Graf\MceEpg2XmlTv and my Ultra stuff is in c:\Graf\UltraXMLTVEnhancer

I've read this thread, but I'm not certain if this problem has been solved for others or not.

You see the auto start at 1:01 on Sunday, Ultra is hung in mem until Monday when I twice kill the task for the two runs in the batch, a batch finish at 11:11 on Monday and a complete normal start/finish cycle on Monday from the manual run via the System screen inside GBPVR
