I long ago decided to try to keep data files separate from the program files. This was to make backups easy. I would have a "Files" directory from the root and just back up Files and everything below it. I know application developers generally like to put their data in a subdirectory to the application but that makes backing up the data a nightmare. If an application allows me to pick another directory for its data other than its default, I put it under the Files directory and I have a structure that makes it easy to find the desired data.
For the EPG, XMLTV, and UltraXMLTV stuff, I decided it was sort of in between being pure data and applications so I created a "Programs" directory on the C: drive. This at least made them a lot easier to find for me rather than scrolling down through the excessively long "Program Files" directories.
