UltraXMLTV runs manually, freezes when GBPVR calls it

I've got a nasty head cold, and realize that just about everything I write today comes out wrong, so I'm going take a day off

I do wanna say that sometimes I'm not replying directly to one person. I'm aware that there are many lurkers.

I believe that we are going in the wrong way with troubleshooting. I'm going to think more about this

I've confirmed that UltraXMLTV_Enhancer will not run correctly if the GB-PVR recording service is not set to 'Interact with desktop'

During troubleshooting I discovered, the only way to get UltraXMLTV_enhancer to run in SYSTEM space and call the UpdateEPG.bat in SYSTEM space was to set a schedule (and fudge the clock) and watch task manager. All processes started in the SYSTEM space would appear invisible on your desktop, but you can clearly see the downloader downloading and creating and xmltv file, then Ultra being called and then stalling.

Because I can't actually see Ultra's state like this, It will be difficult to find out why it doesn't work anymore when it does not run Interacting with Desktop. My other programs, ZProcess, ZTranscode, MVPServerChecker require the service set to 'interact with desktop' so that's what I will require for Ultra too. At least for now.

And there's the rub. Because anything that is called in the System Space by the RS will stay in the System space, and Ultra can't run in the system space, you cannot use Ultra AND the UpdateEPG method unless you set the RS to interact with desktop

And if you're worried about little MVP controller pop ups, use MVPServerChecker. It's small, lean, and takes care of them...

I'm going to go back and look at my system. I could swear that I've seen the following:

1) Older version of Ultra worked (but intermittently) when RS not set to interact.

2) Current version fails to work (almost every time) when RS set to interact.

Perhaps I'm missing something, but I've been set to interact since I upgraded a week ago. I'll have some time this weekend to look at my logs and run a few tests.

Can you set the service to Interact with Desktop and leave it? Let's look elsewhere...

I know that past versions worked without it, but I won't be going backward. I want to find the problem. I won't be taking the time to do so (for a while) though as the workaround seems relatively painless.

Also, once you have it set to interact, you can initiate a test simply from right clicking the tray icon and selecting Update EPG. When it runs in the Desktop Session, it will be identical to when GB-PVR calls it at the scheduled time

That's what I'm doing. I have no reason not to leave it that way, and I've never even tried it set to not Interact with the current version.

Aaah - that explains why it was working well enough before that I didn't even notice a problem except for after a month or so.

Thanks, I wasn't aware I could run it that way to simulate what happens automatically at the scheduled time.

Well, I've had a week to test, and with the Recording Service set to interact with the desktop, it's working perfectly. I see the automatic update running through to completion every night. The update EPG bat file exits correctly and on time. I don't know why it looked like it wasn't working correctly before. Perhaps something else was going on. My problems seem to be solved.
