Hi

I have ditched Sky TV due to lack of use. I was using it in conjunction with a ATI 550 card for my HTPC.

I have since swapped that out for a HVR4000 that was used for DVB-T in another machine.

I have no experiance with DVB-S and was hoping someone could give me a few pointers.

Firstly, in the source config, which sattelite will give Freeview??

I am using the existing Sky dish, and have no idea how to apply the LNB value read off the dish to the config.

Does the dish need a power supply, and if so, does the HVR4000 supply this??

As an aside, I noticed that I am still getting the FTA channels from the Sky decoder includeing Prime. Can I tune into these useing the HVR if they are not encrypted??

Any help appreciated!!

The satellite will be Optus D1 NZ FTA I think it's called. I know it has nz fta in the title.

The lnb is dependant on your dish. some people use 11300 I think the other figure is 10576 I think. If the dish is pretty old then I think the 11300 figure is used.

No I don't think the dish takes a power supply. I run off an old sky dish with no issues.

Unfortunately the analog side of the hvr4000 is not usable for gbpvr as it lacks the necessary hardware encoder...

Most of the above is dead right, I think the other lnb value is 10750. You will no longer be able to get prime through you sat dish as it is actually encoded. The card will supply the required 18 or so volts to the lnb so you will be all good there.

I think the above is on the money.

Hi

Thanks for the replies. I am still confused though.

I have attached images of the LNB on my roof, and a screen shot of the setup for the HVR4000.

I am hoping someone will join the dots for me.

Thanks

10750 is the number you want is all three fields (if mine is anything to go by). And powered unchecked.

Hi

have tried the settings as advised, still no joy.

I stepped backwards and tried to setup using Power cinema, still no go.

may be a hardware thing???

Any other suggestions as to where to look ??

Have confirmed 18V coming out of HVR4000

Cheers

more info on what "no joy" means would be good
have you done a scan and its found nothing or does it not see the card ?//????
is it showing no signal?

i have power ticked on mine but if you have the sky box still inline then it should power from there although if it was me i would take everything else out of the line till i got it sorted

By "no joy" I mean the card will not pick up any channels when scanning. This occurs both in GB-PVR & Power cinema. I know there are some patchs to apply when useing Power cinema, and I have done these.

The card works fine for DVB-T, and I believe it's the same chips handling the DVB-S(??)

Is there a 3rd party bit of software to test and perhaps set manually the tuning to check signals???

Also, when I was playing with it, the dish cable was connected directly to the HVR4000.
