What Video renderer do you use with XP?
Do you surf the Internet, watch YouTube etc from your HTPC and FlatScreen?
What is your priority? Good video picture quality or possibility to surf the Internet?
Do you use VMR9 Custom or have ou downloaded .Net 3.5 to use EVR
or do you skip opening a web page and are using FullScreen Exclusive?
Best Regards

I wish I could run EVR, but I happen to need an AspectRatioMode with a negative number which EVR doesn't support. So it's VMR9 Custom for me.

I don't surf the net exactly, but I do use a custom task to launch a browser to Hulu so I can watch shows there. Brianp101 was working on a plugin for Hulu, but hasn't been heard from in awhile.

EVR for me. I don't quite understand the rest of the question though. VMR FSE would be the only one that would prevent you from doing anything else (like surfing the Net). If you are usig any other renderer, there's no reason you can't have both good picture quality and the ability to surf the Net.

You are right.
I'm running Windows XP and I tested EVR with prevoius versions of GBPVR and .Net 3.0 and I got very strange compressed aspect ratios with EVR and Xvid/DivX files. MPEG2 recordings where fine though.
1 month ago I upgraded to .Net 3.5, I did a quick test again now and it seems that the aspect ratio is fine.
When and what caused the aspect ratio to get OK?
Is it the new GBPVR release or .Net 3.5?

Thanks for having me test again.
Best Regards

Mine is just a server sat in the shack. Viewing is mainly done via PCH and MVP.
It's video board is probably too old to be of any use as a display nowadays - and AGP.

Same for me (just MVP). As far as I know it doesn't matter what you select. The MVP just displays the MPEG2 nothing more..

Oh and by the way I record in medium quality from a analog cable signal in The Netherlands.

When I was running under XP with a AGP HD2600XT I could never get FSE to work, always had tearing. However VMR9 custom was pretty good. Now I use Vista and a 780G mb (with HD3200 built in) with EVR and my SD playback is perfect (HD is almost perfect but I think that's probably crappy ATI drivers more than the renderer)

.Net 3.5 fixed it. A couple of GBPVR releases back, I found the fix for the EVR aspect problem on Microsoft's site and posted it here. It was linked in the survival thread for that release but .Net 3.5 came out and includes the fix.

The decider for me is the renderer I get no screen-tearing with - VMR9 FSE.
If I want to do other stuff on the PC like surfing, I switch to either DVBDream or good 'ol WinTV - both of which seem more suited to use in a window. Of course the risk is that you start watching something on DVBDream - like BBC HD - and then later wonder why your scheduled BBC HD recording did not work! (Has happened to me many a time)

Strangely I get tearing using EVR on XP with the PC in my sig - but on an 'old' 2002 PC EVR is the only renderer that does not get tearing:confused:
