EW login OK with IP but no longer resolves hostname?

I can login using

http://192.168.1.10:7647/gbpvr/Admin.aspx

But I can no longer login using http://smurfpc:7647/gbpvr/Admin.aspx.

I don't think this is EWA related,but what might have changed that this no longer works?

192.168.1.10 = smurfpc.

The Gateway (Router) is 192.168.1.1.

Have you simply tried rebooting the router....sounds like it lost the name table that it would keep. That has happend to me in the past.

Also....from a command line on the client PC issue the command ipconfig /flushdns which will clear the local dns cache forcing a recreation.

Yup tried that still no good. Doesn't work with UVNC either ...hmmm maybe a VISTA security thing ...

Do you have IP V6 enabled on the client? Shouldn't be an issue but perhaps it is....I have it turned off on my Vista client.

Right click on your network connection in the tray (down by the clock), select network and sharing center, select manage network connections on the left-hand side, right click on your network connection, select properties,
make sure the IP V6 protocol is not checked.

Just wanted to say I found the solution - it was a Router issue.

I was actually wanting hostname resolution within my Lan. The Problem (in case anyone else is afflicted witha similar issue) was that the Router (using 3rd Party "Tomato" f/w for my WRT54GS) appparently ONLY resolves hostnames if either:

(a) The Static DHCP name has a dot (.) in the name like "kids.pc"

OR

(b) You fill out the Domain Name in the Basic Identification "Router Identification" Tab in the Tomato Config with a name with a dot in it e.g. Main.Router, which is then appended to the Static IP and can be resolved by the router.

Apparently this is a windows thing....

Anyway I'm happy now! :-)
