anybody heard there's a REAL accelerated video transcoder coming out with catalyst 8.12!
they finally enabled the stream processors to be used for transcoding..
tho it's supposed to be only for 4xxx series cards, they say the sdk works on all uvd cards [2xxx+] Big Grin

they're supposed to release a free transcoder app and others are working on adding it into their apps [cyberlink, avermedia]

i know, i know, sounds painfully familiar right? lol

heard it too, i still haven't tried the current version (no time/need to play with till now). is command line transcoding possible with avivo? i've always seen something GUI based...
to bad their version only works with 4x cards (have an 780G MB w/ 3200 IGP), besides... if they output quality still stays the same as current (doom did compare it to something below XVid http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=104157)...
as far as i got it, the SDK is free to download, let's see if ffmpeg/mencoder or x264 will make use of it Wink

yea, they 'said' it only works on 4xxx gpus but as we saw last time it worked on anything..
but the people who have seen the sdk said it works on any uvd gpu [2xxx+]
so i think they're just trying to sell more 4xxx series cards, putting out that info..nothing new..

i just re-compressed a 1080i 12gig show to 2.5gig at same resolution and it looks fine..with fffmpeg Smile only problem is it takes better than realtime to do it..[not much more tho]
the mce version has a cmdline version but it's severely limited [bitrates, etc] but there are a couple of gui's out there for full controll, and i saw mention of one person who made one into cmdline but it has cpu hog issues[100% cpu] whereas ati's gui only uses about 70% max.
[allowing for background processing while viewing tv]

so i', thinking they will have a cmd line ver. at least for mce drivers..[i just extract it and use in xppro]

and Linux support! sdk available for linux 32 and 64...Big Grin

CORRECTION: cyberlink and Arcsoft are working on this tech, not avermedia...

and yes after reading more it seems the sdk does work on 2400+ gpus Big Grin
i think only AMD's app is locked to 4xxx cards but stream processing should work on any UVD card as suspected...
[the more stream processing units, the better the speed]

look for Cyberlink and arcsoft's apps to work on all the uvd cards, tho better cards will show better accell..

oooohhhhhh

I'll be very interested to ty this out on my new 4670. I did use the old hacked version for a short while but quality vs size was always a bit so so, even if the speed was good.

I put avivixcode.exe in gbpvr\third party folder and added this to config.xml (though I can;t vouch for specific settings as I gave up transcoding on the old athlon system)

<Conversion name="AvivoXcode" exe="atixcode.exe" cmd=" IDLE /F{SOURCE_FILE} /A0 /S0 /R0 /EMPG /V7 /Q2 /X0 /D{DEST_FILE}" targetExtension=".avi" />

x264 dev have taken a look on cuda and discarded the option to integrate it cause of PITA to use in threaded mode. they also took a look on the badaboom encoder performance wise (and it's only baseline profile Big Grin)
they said that an third party (sounded like a big player, having a lot of nvidia hardware & in the video business, most likely google video? who else would go down that route instead of buying dedicated HW specific for that task) is investing a lot of ressources to get it flyin' with x264.
i guess the x264 devs will also avoid steam if the threading behaviour is comparable to cuda Sad
