That log looks like you have no channels enabled. Go into your capture source settings and make sure you have at least one channel with the 'enabled' checkbox ticked.

I am trying to test mc2xml on my laptop so I don't actually have a capture source. I do have it set as an HVR-1600 analog and channel boxes are selected both at capture source and under the channel tab on config. Does not having an actual device attached matter?

No. mc2xml will work just fine all by itself. And a fake capture source is OK, to test and display data. Many times, people are having trouble importing the data, where there are duplicate channels in the xml file

sub was checking my logs because GBPVR locked up on TV Guide and didn't load the schedule. He said it didn't look like I had channels selected on my capture source, however, I do and that's why I was wondering if a fake capture source mattered.
When I look at the xml file with a text editor it looks good, but, doesn't load. It locks up. Here's a segment from the PVRX2-exe.log 2008-12-04 10:44:47.809 VERBOSE [1] FadeThrough alpha = 5 stage = 98 2008-12-04 10:44:47.865 VERBOSE [1] tv guide render took@1: 0 2008-12-04 10:44:47.865 VERBOSE [1] tv guide render took@2: 0 2008-12-04 10:44:47.865 VERBOSE [1] tv guide render took@3: 0 2008-12-04 10:44:47.965 ERROR [1] Unexpected error: System.DivideByZeroException: Attempted to divide by zero. at GBPVRX2.xb654004a5183e7df.GetRenderList() at GBPVRX2.MenuTask.x9006c1ed9ccb79de.GetRenderList() at GBPVRX2.x0061b801bdf12d35.xdb012c437aec4a40(Boolean xd23bf32f3b17e3be) at GBPVRX2.xb979ad394703258e.xfb409e85bd292293(String[] xf18a926310372520) 2008-12-04 10:44:47.987 VERBOSE [1] tv guide render took@1: 0.0078125 2008-12-04 10:44:47.987 VERBOSE [1] tv guide render took@2: 0.0078125 2008-12-04 10:44:47.987 VERBOSE [1] tv guide render took@3: 0.0078125 2008-12-04 10:44:48.087 ERROR [1] Unexpected error: System.DivideByZeroException: Attempted to divide by zero. at GBPVRX2.xb654004a5183e7df.GetRenderList() at GBPVRX2.MenuTask.x9006c1ed9ccb79de.GetRenderList() at GBPVRX2.x0061b801bdf12d35.xdb012c437aec4a40(Boolean xd23bf32f3b17e3be) at GBPVRX2.xb979ad394703258e.xfb409e85bd292293(String[] xf18a926310372520) 2008-12-04 10:44:48.109 VERBOSE [1] tv guide render took@1: 0 This is what sub looked at and said it didn't look like I had channels selected.

If you have mc2xml and your fake cature source setup correctly, then you might want to try FixChannels.bat whichg will effectively rebuild and re-import your channels and listings...

The first two steps of the bat shows access denied. When the recording dump line comes up, there is also an access denied statement. One thing that does happen is the xml file gets updated.
But, GBPVR still locks up when I try to open TV Guide. Can I delete some files manually, or, will that make things worse?

One thing that does happen is the xml file gets updated. If you delete the gbpvr.db3 you will effectively bring GB-PVR to default state, but you will have lost your capture source settings. I would suggest not. The access denied is probably a more serious issue and probably the very reason you are having trouble. I would start looking at your system specs and security and privelages. Maybe there are other apps that are accessing the database, and locking the batch file (or GB-PVR) out Try stopping the Recording Service and then running the Fix Channels Batch file...
