Problem registering lame.ax

I am unable to register lame.ax in order to use the DVB-T plug-in. The message I get from Regsvr32 is:

[INDENT]LoadLibrary("C:\Windows\system32\lame.ax") failed - This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix the problem.[/INDENT]

I've been unable to find a solution to this problem, either here or elsewhere. When I try to scan for channels using the plug-in, it can't find any, which is hardly surprising given that the lame.ax is not registered.

Any suggestions?

Win XP SP3 with all critical updates.
Asus Core2Duo notebook and AverMedia A301 DTV card
MediaPortal (older version) also installed and working.

You actually have two separate problems. Firstly, the LAME encoder is not used during the scanning process so the failure to scan won't be being caused by it not being registered.

If you ZIP and attach the contents of the plugins\DVB-T Radio\Logs folder I'll have a look to see what the problem is.

As for registering the LAME encoder...

Did you get the LAME Directshow filter from here?...

It's the second download which you need (not the ACM codec). If it's in the Windows\System32 folder and you run the install batch file that comes with that download, it should normally work without a problem.

It is possible that it is already registered on your machine (perhaps another app did this).

Attach the logs and I'll try to get the scanning problem fixed first.

Thanks for your reply.

I downloaded the correct Lame encoder. I searched the registry and there's no sign of it in there. Nor anywhere else on the C: drive other than the version I put there, which didn't overwrite anything. I can't see that the inability to register lame.ax is caused by another application already having done it.

Logs attached. I stopped the service and cleaned them out, so this is a fresh set of logs from starting PVRX2, starting the DVB-T Radio plugin and doing a scan for channels.

p.s. I did a wider search for Lame related things and found three instances of lame_enc.dll on the system. But definitely no lame.ax.

WRT to scanning failure - which region did you set when you created the capture source?

WRT LAME - download the zip file for the Directshow filter, unzip into a temp folder then copy lame.ax into the c:\windows\system32 folder then run the RegLAME_DS.bat file.

In that case why don't you have a copy of lame.ax on your machine and only multiple copies of lame_enc.dll (as you mentioned above). :confused:

Sorry. I may have been too brief. There is exactly one copy of lame.ax, in C:\windows\system32, which is the copy I placed there after downloading from the page you recommended. There was no previous copy.

When I searched in the registry to see if any program has registered lame.ax, I can find no reference at all to lame.ax in the registry.

I can find references to lame_enc.dll in the registry, and there are three copies of lame_enc.dll on C: drive.

I've attached an INI file for Canberra (I'm guessing that's where you are). Unzip it and drop it in the gbpvr\BDA\DVB-T folder. When you've done that, start Config and edit your cap. source - hopefully Canberra will now appear in the Region/Transmitter drop-down list. Select it and 'OK' out of Config and try another scan.

WRT LAME - I'm a bit stuck for ideas here but I'll do some searching. I can't help feeling there may have been another user who couldn't register it but I can't remember. Unfortunately this is obviously a Windows issue so beyond my control. I'll see what I can dig up though.

As a workaround, there's an option for DVB-T Radio that you can edit in the DVBTRadio.xml file (in the plugins\DVB-T Radio folder. Set the following...

<UseLivePlayback>true</UseLivePlayback>

...that's assuming you get a successful scan first though.

Thanks for your efforts. The scan still did not work.

I wonder if it's the definition of the capture card. Initially GBPVR thought that it is an Avermedia A828. It's actually an A301, which is not that common AFAIK. I created an A301 definition based on the graph utility and the roughly similar configuration tool from MediaPortal, which is pretty similar to the A828. Both definitions work for TV, but I wonder if something is missing for DVB-R Radio.

In seeking to play with things to get it working I've lost the plugin. I'll come back to it in a couple of days with a fresh mind.

There's no difference between tv and radio when it comes to tuning (just the fact the latter doesn't have a video component). At the point of scanning it's not even connecting up a full graph any way - just a front end.

Did you lose the log files? If not, can you post the DvbtrServiceMessenger.log file. Just because it failed again doesn't mean it was for the same reason. The first time it failed was as a result of a bug in my code even before it had tried to talk to the tuner card.
