I have an idea for the main wiki age. It involves graphics, animated gifs and some sound. Dynamite too, so long as it doesn't slow down the page. And a Neon, Vegas style DONATE button....

Uh....did you take offense to my comment? I apologize if it came off as snippy. I was just thinking the donate "suggestion" would be better served on the main page (higher traffic volume) than the quick start page.

I think my humour (especially sarcasm) is not working lately. It's all good.

I AM thinking of something flashy, but I'll need the help of some graphics gurus...

Also, I've been wanting a graphic for the main skin page for a while, in the same vein as the utililties and Plugins pages. All that I have found were kinda disgusting, if you know what I mean...

It's been one of those days for me. Didn't know how to take it. Sorry for the confusion.

I have to say, that I really don't like the sidebar. I think it's going in the other direction from being easy to glance at and accessible for newbies

I think the sidebar should just have:
  • Plug-ins...
  • Utilities...
  • Skins...

(No sub menus) each links to their respective wiki page

At the top of the wiki page could have the TOC modified to shoort out to sub pages or sub sections, same page, that has the category grouping of the different categories. Developement would also be launched from these pages...

Personally, I'm opposed at having that many categories, but that is not a point I will push. Perhaps many other people would like to see these things grouped that way.

On an related point, when one views the list of categories http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/CategoryBrowser, there are far too many categories listed that do not make sense when seen through newbie eyes (I have a pair that I keep in a box on my dresser)

I would like to consider removing version numbers for plugins, utilities and skins, that are not current. (keep current and one previous version.)

99.12, might be a version we want to keep track of, but then, that's completely contrary to the 'move forward' ideology...

I can see that as well. All just a work in process at this point. Taking baby steps as we go.

How do you do part "A" without part "B" ?
I may have gone overboard with some, but I can see the +'s and no -'s to grouping. I would think that would aide and improve someone finding what they need. Newbie and pro alike.

True, that list needs to be removed completely or restructured to filter in logical ways (I don't even know what that means even :confusedSmile. Not sure many newbies would use a category browser anyway.

If you are talking about removing them on the main plugin page, I can agree to that as well. No need to have a complete release history on the main page.

Should I move some of these posts to a different thread?

Parts of this thread is going in a different direction and content may be missed by those unaware of what is being discussed here under this heading?

Well, I don't know, probably doesn't matter. I think there are only a handful of wiki people out there anyway.

I'll just post something like, "Ready to proof read page such and such"

As far as newbies using the category browser. I must say that when I started, there were few if any categories, so the category list was sparse and useless. It's true that as you create and use new categories, the list becomes more more functional. My idea though was to say, that if you look at the category list at a glance the list is still too long, or too many sub categories

I'm only clarifying my point, not pushing it. I do know that this is all a work in progress, and much too much for one person to do, so it's good you're thinking about that aspect...

Anyway, I'm going to be tinkerting on the bite that I tore off for then next few weeks. Making some time for non-gb-pvr stuff too.

My daughter's three, and this is the first christmas that she's getting the whole santa thing...

I'm already in trouble. My little girl had me wrapped around her finger when she was born, and I haven't let go
