Consider me one, as on 2 of my systems, I can swap to component without problem.

I've just bought a couple of Philips LCD screens for the kids rooms and we have a Sony LCD in the master. All three have component as well as HDMI (x2) so not a massive issue either way for me at the moment. Currently one TV has a component connection to a portable DVD player. The other has a HDMI connection to a Playstation 3.

I tried component for a while but got hacked off with the PCH's issues with 16:9 component and DVD playback. The aspect ratio for DVD playback seems to be fixed at 4:3 for component, there are promises this will be addressed but nothing has emerged in the last two firmware releases.

I currently use component. I originally tried HDMI, but I had a loud hum coming through the audio.

My TV is 2 or 3 years old and only has DVI and component inputs, so component is my only choice.

Martin, I install Telus TV. I see a lot of wide screens. For high def, we use either HDMI or Component.

It's my opinion that the difference between HDMI and Component is like regular and Monster cables (Happy holidays everyone Big Grin )

I suspect there are people who can see the difference, but they're probably the same guys who see dead people (Happy Holidays everyone Big Grin )

Of course some TVs perform better with one over the other. HDMI is my preferred install because it's easier for me, but I have my share of trouble with compatibility between some screens and stbs, and fallback often...

My computer is using dvi>HDMI and a separate analog audio cable for sound

For me it's not about picture quality, some of it is reducing cables to the monitor, and as mentionned some permanent installation aren't designed to accomodate componet. I know the WAF would be low for a monitor mounted on the wall looking like Rapunzel.

I don't have an HDMI monitor for television yet, but when I do I expect to connect one HDMI cable to an AVR that will control the video switching. Not all AVR's allow repeating the component signal input to HDMI output.

mines dvi i use an adapter to hdmi and the reciver handles the audio. dvi blows away any other input on the tv, but i use the pch mostly composite over a channel modulator.

Martin

I can use the component interface and I am a willing guinea pig.
