I have just bought a Hauppauge WinTV Nova-S Plus TV card for my computer. I'm using it to access Freesat channels, but the supplied WinTV software does not allow access to the Freesat EPG.

I'm looking for some software that will allow me to use the Freesat EPG to see program listings for the Freesat channels, and schedule recordings based on the listings. I came across GB-PVR, but I can't find any instructions on how to set it up, other than snippets of information in various forum posts.

Can anyone tell me step by step how to configure GB-PVR to use the Freesat EPG, once I've installed GB-PVR and scanned for channels?

Many thanks,

Gary

I seached the forum for freesat and found this thread.

Thanks gEd. As I mentioned in my original post, I'd seem lots of threads that make reference to the Freesat EPG - both here and elsewhere - but no definitive step-by-step guide.

From the thread you link to specifically, it's not clear to me whether or not GB-PVR has the functionality to display the Freesat EPG, or whether I have to use another program (DVBGuide??) to download the EPG data.

What I'm after is some instructions on how to configure GB-PVR to display/use the Freesat EPG, based on broadcast (rather than downloaded data).

Thanks,

Gary

GB-PVR cannot display the Freesat broadcast EPG at this stage. They opted to use a non standard EPG implementation. You'd have to get the EPG from XMLTV file for now.

OK. Are there any other TV applications that can download the EPG data from the satellite?

You could use the excellent XMLTV GUI from http://www.birtles.org.uk - it is ideal for the main UK DVB-T and DVB-S channels.
This is the thread with full instructions on setting it up:

Hi Gary

I haven't implemented this into GBPVR yet, but I did some tests yesterday using Beta 3 of this tool...

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/showt...707&page=2

... and it looks like it should be usable.

What I did so far:-

- Record 40MB (1 min or so) or so from the FreesatHome Data Stream using DVBDream (EuroBird 1 (28.5E) - 11426.00 H )
- Parse and export to XMLTV file using this tool

From there it should be no problem to use it as normal in GBPVR, although I didn't want to mess up my existing EPG (and possibly scheduled recordings), so I didn't try!

Assuming it will work, what I still need to do is work out if I can schedule the recording of the data stream within GBPVR, then schedule the parsing and exporting part so that the XMLTV file is there ready to be read in by GBPVR during the daily update.

For the time being I'm happily using DigiGuide and XMTV GUI, which doesn't cost much anyway.

Let me know how you get on...

I went a little further and sucessfully managed to configure GBPVR to record the data using the following in my scan cache and assigning it to a channel I don't want to watch in my EPG.

A one minute manual recording of that channel provided a 75MB file which I imported into the Freesat EPG Parser and it looked like 7 days was there for all channels. The XMLTV file that I was then able to export looks like it will work fine.
