MVP Control Thread Listening on port: 5906
MVP Streaming thread Listening on port: 8337

Do you have them open on your router or you test HTPC for your MVP?

IIRC, 5906 is a port usable by the VNC protocol.. And from what I thought I
read of someone's analysis of the MVP communication to the Hauppuage
software, the MVP is doing nothing more than KVM updates using a modified VNC
protocol implementation.

Okay, found the MPEG Layer-3 problem I was having, and thought I'd share with anybody else that was having the problem with 91.89 saying it can't find the MPEG Layer-3 codec when using a GO7007SB device (Plextor, LifeView).

If you have a Sound Blaster Live card installed, and have the Sound Blaster Live Play Center installed (it's installed by default). Creative installs a driver that registers itself as the MP3 encoder, and this overrides the microsoft default MPEG Layer-3 driver. To get around this problem, you have to uninstall the PlayCenter. You do this by going to Add Remove programs, and select the Sound Blaster application. In there, you want to select MODIFY, and then custom (if it asks). Unselect the PlayCenter, and select OK. When prompted to reboot, do so.

Now you should have the Microsoft MPEG Layer-3 driver. You can check this by using the following slick little program:

It'll give you all the information about what codec you have installed and who made it. Select the drop down box, and select Audio Codec. Look for the MPEG Layer-3 entry, and it should be by Microsoft. If it is, then you are all set.

This took a good couple of days of searching, and it was only after using the Sherlock program, I was able to find the cause of the problem. Hopefully, this saves others my headaches.

Yea, I noticed that when you telnet to 5906 that you get the standard RFB welcome, unfortunatly if you use VNC to connect to localhost:6 (which is port 5906) the standard client bitches that the color depth doesn't match.

Does anyone know if there's a software client for the MVP server?
