Any body using MVP in Hong Kong. Just want to share some experience with them.

I have been using MVP for 2 weeks now. I manage to get it working with GBPVR but no luck playing non-English records due to the problem with GBPVR+MVP in handling the Chinese folder/file names generated from the Chinese EPG.

Hi dandus,

I am using an MVP, but unfortunately I don't play any Chinese movies or programs, as I am not able to understand them (sorry).

I do however use TVXB for the EPG which can handle Chinese Characters. Could you perhaps elaborate on your problem a bit, the exact folder paths etc?

Are you saying that GBPVR works fine on your PC, but does not work when played over your MVP?

I see. I recorded some cartoons for my children and that's why.

I also use TVXB to grab listing for the open air channels. I can circumvent my problem and use their English listing, but this is something that I do not want as the CHinese-English translation is quite not-understandable most of the time. GBPVR generates new folders for each program recorded. The actual MPEG files are placed inside the folders. The name of the folders and the files are named after what is in the program listing. If I use the Chinese program listing, the Chinese folder/file names will be used. This is fine until MVP running GBPVR seems not being able to handle Chinese and the MVP will restarts when these Chinese recordings are played.

GBPVR works great for me. I had it running continuously for >9months. I also run GBPVR in another PC on the Client mode, it runs great. I am now thinking for getting two MVPs for two of my other rooms as I do not want to put PC in these two rooms. I got one already and may not buy another one until I can fix this GBPVR-MVP issue.

MVP is quite quickly out of the market as the distributor Shooting (http://www.shooting.com) will not order new ones.

dandus,

I see you've already put a thread in the MVP forum, which was going to be my next suggestion, as this (as you point out) does seem to be an MVP issue.

Sorry I can't help you specifically, but hopefully sub will be all over it like my 2 yr old over ice-cream :-)

Cheers and best of luck,

k.

Reproduce the problem, then zip and attach the logs and I'll take a look.

I've been using GBPVR very happily for years. It's worked so well that I have forgotten most of the technical stuff I figured out, and was surprised to see some of the detailed responses I gave on this forum years ago - they helped me a lot!

I recently moved home in Hong Kong and now have a new NOW Broadband controller. My old Hauppage ir blaster won't control the new box, so I recorded the remote signals again through GBPVR setup. When I try to change the NOW channel through GBPVR some of the digits will get through to the NOW box, but not all of them. I have tried recording the signals at different distances and light conditions to no avail.

Does anyone have any advice? I am using an old version : 0.98.13b. If there have been any changes in the channel changer software I can upgrade, but would prefer to try a quick fix first!

Thanks!
