Anyone tried YetiOS2?

Has anyone tried YetiOS2, WinXP/SP3 Lite image with their build? Curious to know the performance gains as opposed to the full blown XP.

YetiOS2 is a very lite version of Windows XP Pro/SP3 made for gamers. It's an iso that is roughly 167mb in size. All the junk has been removed to give it a very lite footprint and is very quick.

I've installed it on a laptop, p4 1.6ghz w/1gb ram, so far so good. It's very responsive. I upgraded ie to ie7 and installed gbpvr latest version. I installed klite mega and a few other software, winzip, adobe reader etc. I've setup the epg with mc2xml and it's running fine. GBPVR is fast, transitions are fast, with no lag time. I haven't played live tv or any video files as I don't have a tuner on the laptop. I did play the web radio and it works fine.
I did copy over a few mp3s to test out the music player. I instantly noticed that the Yeti does not have a version of Media player install, so I installed MP11. Now the music player works.

I'll have to give this a test run on my mbox to really see it in action, but so far, it's quite fast.

I rate it as the best version of XP I've ever used. I originally had a version of XP that was really lite, but this one is better!

You can google it and should be able to download it.

The person who made it is also working on a USB version, which is the way to go. Install this sucker on a 8gb mem stick and you've got a rocket..lol

Ie: a customized XP. You can do the same yourself using nLite, a free tool to add/remove windows components, drivers etc.

Btw, have tou run any spyware detector/antivirus on it? I once tried Black-XP and something called Crystal edition, it was crawling with trojans and worms... Sad

I've nlited stuff to death in the past but never seen any performance improvements other than saving huge wads of disc space.

I have a bootable USB stick with XP on it, but the speed is hopeless - reminds me of floppy disk days. USB is slow and flash is even slower.

Yepp, almost the only thing that saves cpu is to disable/uninstall network, and then you're stuck on a deserted island :p

Anyway, removing unnessasary load in windows (without saving discspace) is better done in the Services program or with microsofts expert tools.
