TS Mux

I'm in the process of doing a fresh install and noticed that the config app selected "TS Mux" by default for the BDA Multiplexer. Is there a benefit in using this other an MPG based mux or is it just the lucky default?

System:
* DVB-T "Freeview" via a pair of Hauppauge Nova-T PCIs.
* Occasional MVP use (recordings mainly, rarely live TV).
* Low end CPU/graphics card (see sig).

Multi record is the most obvious benefit. Is only possible via the TS mux.

Other than the the file is still an Mpeg2 file just in a different container. Sometimes the audio decoder can have trouble finding the audio stream though so you may need some changes in that area as well.


Although your MVP wont like the .ts files I don't think.

How about sync issues and skip forward/back? Comparable to MPG or worse/better?

I have no problems with it now. Initially yes, but sub's done a lot of work in this area. And I must temper that with - I think the sync issues were more on our NZ HD rather than our MPEG2 based Satellite service. Which is probably the equivalent of what you are using it for.

AFAIR ts mux can't be used with PC clients in streaming mode.
I'm having problems remembering why I prefer streaming mode though ;(
I think sub is putting much work into the ts mux side of things, so it may be the future, certainly with digital broadcasting.

Subtitles playback out of sync so you can write off using that feature with TS Mux.
