Why can't we use a modded xbox as the front end for GB-PVR? I would say it would be easy for the Xbox media center project to be extended to play the media being streamed from GB-PVR. This way the component video and optical audio connections of the xbox can be used. And used xboxes are not much more expensive than the mvp these days.

Hmm, an interesting concept. I've also thought of this.

I have one Xbox running Xbox Media Center (XBMC) on one floor, and thought I would do the same for the t.v on the main floor. Then I came across the Hauppauge Media MVP and started to rethink the decision. I already have a server in the network, so storage on the Xbox itself wasn't an issue, but processing and plugins are. The Media MVP is very quiet: No fan, no harddrive, etc and has a high WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor) as it is small and turns on and contacts the server very quickly.

The biggest drawback of the MVP is that all processing of Divx and/or other encoded files must be done on the host PC. This means a fairly powerful machine must be left on at all times. Not a big issue if your PC media server is 2GHz or over. If you use an Xbox, all processing is done locally and the files are accessed through an SMB or similar network share.

So, if we could get a plugin for XBMC to run as a virtual MVP, using the host processor on the XBox for Divx files, then we would have a product ! Smile

#3) PopCorn Hour.. I'm working on that one.

XBMC & 2 Hauppauge Media MVPs connecting to the server.. and a couple Terrabytes of kids shows.

I am experimenting with one MVP. However an X-Box at each TV would also add DVD access and gaming ability at each tv (assuming that the mod allows it).

Well in line with this ( plus a mass of testing)
I've got an Xbox hocked up with the Xbox mediacenter, playing recordings from gbpvr through a xbox stream server (fun)
A web browser for viewing the GBPVR web admin.

Although trying to fix the XMLTV plugin for the xbox media center (to work) may then also write a little web service to manage recordings frm there (or just re-use the web admin bits)

Could be good (could also be a pile of )£*£ in the end buy hay ho)

just my mumblings.

Just aiming for a TV recordings (and other media and dvd) outlet that the wife can turn off when she doesn't want it (excellent WAF point)
So similar to MVP just different.
Having the XBMC as the default dashboard helps!
