Download new XML file. Enhance with commit. Fix Channels. Period
Good News. The Really Short Answer worked. And it was painless to run FIx Channels.

Unlike your answer, however, it took an hour and a half to run w/commit. See my earlier post.

See the screen capture below. Note that "channels" 94-99 are now gone. It was the same in the Capture Cards screens.

Can you tell me what the Favorites field is for on the Channels tab in CONFIG? I haven't seen any effect when these boxes are checked or unchecked.

As you can see, I've accumulated two extraneous entries at the beginning of the list that I can't seem to get rid of. Channel "55 FOODP" was left over from when FOODP moved from channel 55 to 69. Fix Channels did not eliminate them when I ran it today.

I've tried using the Remove Unreferenced Channels button and it seems to have no effect.

If you think it appropriate, I can post this question in the SUPPORT forum instead. (This was the area I was going to ask you about related to Fix Channels)

Who knows where that garbage came from. It should be cleaned up completely when running either a 'Fix Channels' or regular EPG Update (inside Ultra) I wouldn't bother sub about it.

those two channels aren't in your original xmltv. Really, when you fix channels (don't do it more than one, twice is once too many times), since it deletes the tables, there shouldn't be anything left of those channels.

My suspicion is that is that those two channels are associated with erroneous Recording events, stored during the back up and restored again. I would clean out my Recording Schedule too

Just to clean them up you could use 'SQLite Database Browser' and then open and clean out the Channels table

From now on, at the begin of your testing session, back up the gbpvr.db3. That way you can always restore...

I have no idea what the Favourites are for. Though they need to be dealt with too when I Fix Channels

There was a day not to long ago, thta I could throw a series name at theTVdb.com like "Aardvarks taste funny" (the eg assumes the show doesn't really exist) and I'd get a response back from theTVdb.com server, lickety split with a blank or empty xml file

I would then mark that show as Wrong Data and then never ask to check that again.

Well I got tired of that. Now it waits for a full time out (mine is set for 15 seconds) but even longer doesn't give me a empty xml file.

So I looked at keeping track of all the ids for all the shows I try...

And something cool is resulting from this. I end up with a transferable text file tat lists all the shows with their IDs. Anything that doesn't have an ID, is marked No Data in the list.

That means that I could spend an hour or two filling this list, and send the file along with my zip file, and then you guys won't need to check those names ever again.

If you have shows that I have not checked, then it will append to the list, and you can save it somewhere...

I already have a fairly current file from LewE, so I'll be checking his file. If TomR wants to send me his HUGE file, I can run that through and you won't have to spend the time again...

I believe the ones you have selected as Favorites are used for live TV when you channel up & down & it skips the ones that aren't marked as Favorites but you can select the non Favorites to watch live from the TV guide.

Thanks.

I never use Live TV so if that is their use I can see why I didn't see any effect from checking or not checking a channel.

What file are you talking about?

Are you talking about the entries in the Ultra log (if Heavy logging is chosen) like these:

3/10/2009 7:16:49 AM :> Skipped: 'Johnny Test' because it was marked Wrong.Data
3/10/2009 7:16:49 AM :> Skipped: 'Pokemon. DP Battle Dimension' because it was marked Wrong.Data

If so, you could have Ultra write these out to a separate database or file and then have users send their DB/file to you for updating the Master List. Then, maybe issue updates to the "Dead Files" data base sort of like Virus signature updates for antivirus programs.

Wow. That's cool. I would suspect that that is quite an innocuous feature though. Perhaps we should get that into the wiki...

No. You haven't seen what I will be releasing soon.

I will stop using wrong.data and series.xml files altogether. That's a huge amount of wasted Internet bandwidth I'm saving on top of the speed increase...

I'm putting in code to delete these files for you, so that we can keep things clean... But you shouldn't do it till I release...

A similar feature is supported by the (non-existent as far as you are concerned Big Grin) TV Listings plug-in. You can define your own custom lists of channels and switch between them when looking at listings so you only see the desired subset.

I've found it really useful because my cable provider has most channels on the West Coast feeds as you would expect but a handful of them are on East Coast feeds. I define a custom guide of East Coast feed stations so I can quickly look at the 5-8pm listings for those channels to see the prime time programs.

Another use is to define a guide of just the channels that the kids like.

Actually, this is one of my cable providers' screw-ups that I like. Since I can record the East Coast feed programs in the 5-8pm period, that gives me more flexibility to record other prime time programs with my two capture cards. It's like having an extra two capture cards sometimes.
