Article on Slashdot is here:

http://tech.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=09/03/10/144222

The release is here:

http://ffmpeg.org/index.html

Thought I would start a thread to discuss... any long-term problems finally fixed that benefit this community? (Any new ones? : )

I also saw that announcement. I've considering changing the version included with GB-PVR, so will look into thise new build as a candidate for inclusion in the next release.

The big issue is because of major changes to the command line it will probably break a lot of user scripts, and maybe ZProcess, on top of the GB-PVR distributed scripts that (hopefully) won't be overwritten in an update. You might need to distribute both ffmpeg's in the Third Party folder too to reduce support issues.

I try not to pull stuff out from under the developers, like changing APIs etc (ffmpeg included), but eventually I may need to make changes like this. I'll just make sure I give people plenty of warning if I decide go ahead with a change like this. I'm also thinking about updating the version of the SQLite dll we're using. Both of these will need to give people lots of warning.

Zehd probably has the biggest dependency on the version of ffmpeg I ship, so I'll make sure he gets a good chance to change anything he needs to.

I'm not worried about zehd and others that know enough about ffmpeg, what I was getting at is I figure a lot of non-developers have modified config.xml to get some sort of custom transcode. If you revert those setting to a dont-edit-me level there might be confusion and if you don't change them the transcodes will fail.

Does anyone know where to get a windows build of this version? I never could figure out how to compile ffmpeg on a windows box, as the tutorials I've seen are all out of date, and I also could never figure out how to cross compile for windows on a linux box.

Edit: I found a version dated 2009-01-14 at http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles..._id=248632 , but it has an svn version number, so I don't know if it's a build of the .5 release.
