It's a good thing we don't still have to use the rotary mechanical dials to switch channels. :p

With Schedules Direct we can configure so we don't download every channel, just the ones we want. Doesn't Tom have that option?

I haven't seen any options to limit which channels to download. But that would be great. Smile

Maybe at somepoint I'll have to look into SD.

LewE Wrote:I thought my xml file was big with 26,000 records.

Is that for 14 days of listings?

Does Tom subscribe to the Super Mega Platinum service for multiple satellite services? With that many channels available, how many can a normal person view in a 24 hour day?

I have Bell Canada as my Satellite provider. I haven't counted but they have approx. 1000 channels listed. This includes descriptive video, network, network - time shifting (e.g. there is a listing for several timezones for many of the networks), pay-per-view, digital, music, etc. Basically it's every channel they offer. The XML file is for 14 days of listing.

This is what I end up downloading, enhancing and bringing into GBPVR.

Out of those 1000 channel, I'm subscribed to maybe 300.

Now you can see why my XML file is so large and why it takes so long to downlaod. Sad

zehd Wrote:Tom, if you don't mind, I'd really like to see what happens when you run Ultra at work, have it scan your cache, and auto add the listings to the list. I'd like you to upload that file, before I make a newer master file available...

BTW, is your Tooltips working?

Edit: Tomorrow, when you're updating, all you really have to do is get the records started. It will have purged and updated the lust. Stop the enhance and upload that file now (using the upload button on the cache tab)

OK, it took 8+ minutes to purge the Wrong.Data files but it's final done.

I have uploaded the _SeriesID.txt file for you. Have fun.

Did you want me to Purge All No Data and let it run through? Or should I wait until you had a chance to process my uploaded file and then download a new master list?

In regard to the Tool Tips...
As requested, I'm sticking to running this on 1 PC. Unfortunately Tool Tips do not seem to come up. I've test both running from the USB stick (my normal way of testing UltraXMLTV) and from the hard drive. Neither give me Tool Tips (I really didn't expect any difference but gave it a try). I have ran UltraXMLTV on other computers (I think 3 others) and the Tool Tips come up fine. So I think it has to be a computer specific issue - it's my spare PC at work and I've beaten it up pretty good over the last 2-3 years.

But at least I've gotten it to work on other computers so I can at least see what you are talking about and know what some of the fields are for. Nothing like documentation. It just suck being the one who has to write it. Big Grin

If Schedule Direct can handle your situation, I think the $20US per year would well be worth it for you. If I remember you can have a 7 day free trial with them to se how it works.

I had tried it when I was first looking at GBPVR and then the free trial expired. Then I looked into something that was free like mc2xml since I can be cheap at times Big Grin

While this can be painfully slow for me at time I think it might help point out some issues and may help improving UltraXMLTV in the end. (or maybe I'm just wasting my time now Sad )

The good thing about SD's free trial is that I think it's restricted by the PC. I could just keep re-imaging a PCs to keep the free trial going Rolleyes Like I have the time for that at work.

Yes. It is always good to do testing on the extreme conditions.

At least in the early days, I was told that some of the key managers of Borland's Delphi used to run it on slow computers intentionally because that way they could see the bottlenecks and any performance issues would be hihlighted.

It's just that it sucks to be you. Big Grin

Ran the newest after downloading the master list at ~11:30 am Eastern. It seemed to find a bunch more programs that it hadn't before, but was still blazing fast ~10 minutes.

You canj create include or exclude lists with mc2xml. The way it works is, mc2xml still downloads the whole thing, but then excludes channels just before creating the file.

I know that you think you have a 100 MB file from mc2xml. But mc2xml is actually downloading a very very compressed stream. So excluding the channels won't help the bandwith on download, just on Enhancement

If you want I'll make one up for you just so I can see how I can speed up Ultra

go to this key and make it 1... 1 shows, 0 disables. I think your need a restart

Code:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
"ShowInfoTip"=dword:00000001

I don't want anyone to stop paying. Using mc2xml is grey area anyway.

The only reason to switch from mc2xml to SD would be an ethical one. I've been working with SD and mc2xml and actually like the mc2xml listings better, though they're very very similar in amount of extra information...
