UltraXMLTV Support...

Just tried installing today, with the latest Ultra files downloaded today (1.2.127). Running Vista, 32-bit. When I first got that message, I went back to the Ultra wiki page, and downloaded the VB SP6 files. When I installed, it ended with a message that said the VB stuff "may not" have installed correctly. What? Tell me yes, or no, not "maybe not". So, I'm not sure they did install, but I get the error message the same after I went through that exercise. I did read that the VB sp6 runtime stuff is supposed to be fully supported in Vista. Is this just a case of me needing those run-time libraries, and them likely not getting installed correctly, or is perhaps something else going on?

It seems like you don't have admin rights to install and set the registry for the vb runtime files. It's probably a UAC thing.

I really haven't had a problem with Vista 32 bit users, who download the required files.
Anyway, I'm finishing up version 2 of Ultra and it's written in .net. It should make things easier for all concerned..

Yeah, I just tried right-clicking and saying "run as administrator", and it works fine. I hate that - my account has admin priviledges... why does it taunt me so!? I look forward to version 2.

you don't HAVE to have interact with desktop, just log service in with same user as is currently logged in and it works fine...
but your program balks at not having 'interact' checked, and hangs...[when i think it *can* continue normally] thus hanging epg update..
iirc it used to work this way in early versions without the check in place...

could you please add something so we can select to ignore this and try to continue?

works fine from scheduler with current user or 'only if logged in' checked..
[which is same as 'interact' because you're the same user, who's desktop you want to interact with,so rights are granted automatically...]

have you tried it this way without the check for interact? it lets me run batch files that interact with desktop fine...

confirmed, i set rec service to my username, restarted...in taskman it reflects it...
went into services and changed to locel service w/interact and applied, but did *not* restart the service...
so even tho it was still running as my username, the settings were set to local w/interact, apparently fooling your program to thinking it was already set, and everything ran fine...
[also echoed out the username from the updateepg batch and it also says my username]

so it would appear that it will work this way, but only without the checks...
you could automate by only checking for interact when local_service is username..
i use it this way cuz it's just easier to get network access for my pch and the silly mvp server won't always be popping up...

Well first, I can't remove the checking from Ultra and ZProcess. Something went wrong a while ago with my code, and my programs became dependant on it. I can't tell what happened.

As far as having the service interact with desktop and MVP popups, that's why I have MVPServerChecker. It makes sure the GUI is in the forground, tries to make sure the MVP server isn't gumme up, and hides MVP Popups.

But anyway, I'm coming close to a public release of Ultra 2. And from the beginning, I made sure it would work with he service NOT interacting...

Although I still like my MVPServerChecker keeping the GUI in foreground

bummer...but i can get around with an extra line in batch file so at least now i know a workaround...
the 'interact' thing used to mess with my HIPsends also, but i made another one that uses tcp that's much faster as well and can even blast from other machines much less any account..

i was waiting till v2 matured a bit as i don't really have my dev machine in a decent state and don't wanna mess with the main unit too much...

i always thought it should be a 2 component system, a console app to do the grunt work, and a nice gui just to set settings...no need for forms in batches, and all the extra gui resources...
but still pretty much working the same way...registry for settings, same gui...
just an added stripped down cmdline .exe for batches..

but on to v2...

i think the problem with existing one is it's not killing the temp instance that is trying to change the service settings, hanging from continuing...as it never actually changes my settings, but that may be because i'm using a 'user' for rec service..[not local_service]
so no 'interact' checkbox to check..
just my thoughts..
will check the new one out more soon..

I'm sorry that you are having a hard time hacking my software I purposely made it tough to circumvent the check. Looks like I passed, if it foiled you.

I know how timid people are when they see Beta testing, and a flood of messages...

So far, they very worst that can happen to a production machine, is that there are no listings displayed, and that can be fixed by loading an Unenhanced file as a workaround.

Seriously, I need more people like you stress testing my software, so That I CAN say it's ready for public release. TomR and LewE are doing great things testing on behalf of the basic user (actually, they're not all that basic) but You would ceratainly help keep me on my toes...

here's a fix for anyone who wants to try it...
execute this line before running ultra:

sc config "GB-PVR Recording Service"  obj= localsystem password= "" type= own type= interact

then after, set it back to your settings..mine are like:

of course edit to your password ... [username is auto filled with current user]
be very careful about syntax, note the space after each =, and you can use quotes around the value after: password= "password"

intersting note: you can also set a user started service to 'interact'....
[normally it's not set that way,and no 'button' in services]
note: this doesn't ever restart the rec. service..just changes the settings and back...good enough to fool Ultra.

now don't go thinking you can just turn 'interact' off and still have Ultra work, it won't...
it only works if you use the currently logged on user..[why i made it use %username%,it has to]

That is so cool. I should almost add these lines directly into Ultra.. I say should, but then I think about opening up VB6 and then I get very very sick...
