Unfortunatly, I have to do this from home since I don't get tooltips at work for some reason.

I haven't brought it up but lately (I think for several revisions) I haven't been getting Tool Tips. I used to get them.

I had written off their disappearance to my moving so quickly when I use the program that my cursor doesn't stay in one spot long enough for the tooltips to appear. I just checked and that's not the case. They just flat out are too scared to come out.

I've confirmed that the check/uncheck is setting and remembering in the regsitry correctly. It's persistent.

Now, not everything has a tool tip.
You need to set the TT time to something large enough to see (default is 20000).

To test if tooltips is working, I hover over the nearby Exclude Category checkbox, though once tooltips is on, hovering over the TT time should work too...

This is weird. When I first start up Ultra, the tooltips for the items on the Main tab work. If I then go to another tab, none of those tooltips work. If I go back to the Main tab, those don't work either. If I exit Ultra and start it again, I get the same results.

I changed the tooltip from Balloon to regular. I read somewhere that Balloons are not reliable.

First, the good news. You don't have to curse offline.

Now, the bad news. Same results except the balloons are rectangular.

I don't know then. I don't do anything with turning on or off after the form loads and the check is filled from registry

If it makes you feel any better, tooltips for this version and previous versions seem to work perfectly fine for me at home. Just not at work. I don't think the problem at work is related to any policies (machine or user) since I'm and admin on the local machine and I have opted not to have any policies applied on my workstation.

When I have the additional tabs disaabled, tooltips seem to work on just the Main tab. As soon as I switch tabs the tooltips disappear until I exit Ultra and start again.

Now for the good news...When I have the additional tabs enabled the tooltips seem to work fine on all tabs.

Maybe this will help to determine what is going on.

LewE can you confirm if this is the case for you as well? Or do the tooltips always stop working for you when you switch tabs no matter which tabs are displayed?

zehd, as you get close to a release version, you should do your testing in the same mode you will expect most users to have, i.e. Beta = 0.

...TomR, you can start throwing out the spelling errors...

Not many spelling mistakes but here is anotehr 2 cents from me

Main tab
Rec/sec tooltip needs a period at the end (to be consistent). Actually it needs a period after each sentence. Enhancement, speed are spelt wrong. Also, the tooltip mentions “If you disable SeasonEPNum…” Maybe indicate where/how this can be disabled.

Tooltip for skipped Categories makes reference to the Cache tab. But this tab is disabled by default. Is it possible to hide this section if Cache tab is hidden?

Tooltip for Basic Settings TT Display Time – Display name need to have the background color changed to be like the others (see screenshot). Is it actually necessary to check “Use tool tips” to have the value for TT Display Time to be saved? Is there an ‘isDirty’ property or on lost focus event that could be used instead?

Tags tab
To What Tag tooltip needs a period at the end (to be consistent). First character should be capitalized.

Tag Mask tooltip should have the ellipses removed (to be consistent).

Sample Data tooltip needs a period at the end (to be consistent). There should be a space between “Zehd’s” and “Picks”.

Max Value tooltip could be changed to the following:
[INDENT]There are some tags that have multiple values. In SOME cases you may limit the number of entries for those values.

E.g. It will limit the number of characters displayed for the description tag. This will make room for more data to be displayed. (Some XMLTV files have VERY long descriptions)

E.g. There may be 7 Actors listed for a given show but you only want to display the first 3.

For the StarRating tag the Max Value is the maximum number of stars and the rating is calculated accordingly.

E.g. StarRating is 2/4 but you want to see the rating based on a 5 star rating system. In this case enter 5 for this field and the rating will be recalculated and show 2.5 stars.[/INDENT]

Is there a way of toggling this field between enabled/disabled depending on which tag was selected? This would help take out the confusion on which tags this applies to.

There seem to be a “blank “field the right of “Use CrLf after Tag” that has a different background color (see screenshot).

Zehd’s Picks tooltip should have the ellipses removed (to be consistent).

When working in either the Sub title tag, Desc Tag, or the Extra Desc Tag sections, is it possible to highlight the corresponding examples?

Possibly move the “Extra CrLf” in the bottom right to be between the Desc Tag section and the Extra Desc Tag section. This is where the CrLf would be applied. I’m not sure about the asterisk at the end of the tooltip but to be consistent it need a period at the end.

The sample description section (blank background, white text area) has a tooltip “Click ‘Show’ to see sample text.” I think this is an old tooltip. The other 3 sections do not have tooltips. It might be nice to use this to indicate the sections (Title, Sub-title, Desc, and Extra Desc.)

Misc tab
New Show Detection, Consider a repeat after, Exclude Text, and Move Exclude Text labels all need their background color changed (see screenshot).

New Show Detection tooltip needs a period at the end (to be consistent).

New Show Marker tooltip need to be formatted better. All the other tooltips are a lot narrower than this one. It also needs a period at the end (to be consistent).

Is it possible to disable “Consider a repeat after” depending on the value for New Show Detection? This way we would know if we can make a change here or if doesn’t apply.

What are the Video Quality – HDTV, Video Aspect, etc. for? Should they have a group box around them? Should they have tooltips?

Season/EP Lookup, Cache and Channel tabs

Commit Changes tooltip needs a period at the end (to be consistent).

Open Orig and Open New do not have tooltips. I know they are fairly obvious but Restore does have a tooltips. Maybe they should all have tooltips or none of them to be consistent.

Restore tooltips indicates it will restore the original XMLTV file. Where will it restore it from? Maybe disable this button if the ‘before’ file does not exist.

Grabber path/filename tooltip should have period at the end (to be consistent) and remove the 2 CrLfs between the 2 lines.

Start Update EPG tooltip needs a period at the end (to be consistent).

Stop Update EPG does not have a tooltip. Maybe add one to be consistent.

Level tooltip needs a period at the end (to be consistent). Are you changing the default from Heavy to Medium?

Should Open Log have a tooltip to be consistent?

I’ll leave this along for now as well since this is under development.

Other comments

I had mentioned previously that the tab stop order for all field on all tabs are messed up so I’ll take a moment to mention it again. When on any tab pressing the TAB key should take you field to field in a logical, linear order. Currently it just jumps all over the place.
