Bad news...I spoke too quickly about tooltips at home. I'm now experiencing what LewE discribed.

When I have the additional tabs disaabled, tooltips seem to work on just the Main tab. As soon as I switch tabs the tooltips disappear until I exit Ultra and start again.

Now for the good news...When I have the additional tabs enabled the tooltips seem to work fine on all tabs.

Maybe this will help to determine what is going on.

LewE can you confirm if this is the case for you as well? Or do the tooltips always stop working for you when you switch tabs no matter which tabs are displayed?

On a side note, I think I'm going to create a hidden easter eg to hide and show the beta tabs. You guys are great sports, but I'll be it's getting old changing the registry value...

I was going to suggest something like that. I do that with the programs Iwrite for myself. On those, I usually use a click on the logo I put on the opening screen to enable debug screens.

There seem to be a “blank “field the right of “Use CrLf after Tag” that has a different background color (see screenshot).

When working in either the Sub title tag, Desc Tag, or the Extra Desc Tag sections, is it possible to highlight the corresponding examples?

Is it possible to disable “Consider a repeat after” depending on the value for New Show Detection? This way we would know if we can make a change here or if doesn’t apply.

What are the Video Quality – HDTV, Video Aspect, etc. for? Should they have a group box around them? Should they have tooltips?

Restore tooltips indicates it will restore the original XMLTV file. Where will it restore it from? Maybe disable this button if the ‘before’ file does not exist.

Are you changing the default from Heavy to Medium?

I had mentioned previously that the tab stop order for all field on all tabs are messed up so I’ll take a moment to mention it again. When on any tab pressing the TAB key should take you field to field in a logical, linear order. Currently it just jumps all over the place.

You had written such concise notes, that all I can say is Thanks. I'm made many of your suggested changes. Here's my response to some other suggestions. It's debate.

I actually didn't get the screenshots, but I sort of knew what your were talking about. It always boggled my mind that when one control has a colour of 'control' and another control has the colour 'control'.

Highlighting the tag that is selected is cool, and I did think of it. If you remember Version 1, I think this technique is far better, yet, it was still not coded to make inline highlighting possible. I may revisit this, because it's an important part of the interface, and I want people to know what they are changing...

There are a couple of other ideas you had that require a chuck of coding. Some things come together easily, because Version 2 is simply written better... But some ideas just weren't in the works at the beginning...

The Video and Audio tags, is designed to overwrite inherent XMLTV tags. Eg XMLTV uses the word 'stereo', I prefer 'Stereo', or 'teletext' to 'CC', or dolby to Dolby or dB (which I know is the symbol for decibel, but anyway...) It just gives me a chance to be picky. This can all be covered in the manual. A new user need not pay it a second's glance.

And then there's the tab stop issue.

I have already changed a lot of them. But I will never make it so a user need never use a mouse. Not only is that tonnes more coding with on enter and exit events, but there's this thing called Windows, and it's pretty Mouse intensive...

That said, there are some sections where one control flows into another and it just makes sense to have a tab stop index...

Another is where you have to type in a text box. It has alwasy been my habit to hit Enter, so I handle that. But I also have to give a 'Enter' button...

Anyway. I haven't uploaded it, but I've done quite a bit. I'm looking forward to hearing about my typos of your corrections...

The suggestion for additional tooltips was more from the point of being consistent. I'm not suggesting tooltips need to be everywhere. But I do find tooltips helpful when you need a quick indicator what a field is for. I'm sure the manual will have far more detail than any tooltip could ever provide. I always seem to cringe when I hear of people saying the details will be in the manual. If your like me, then documentation is always rushed at the end and when the app gets updated the manual is usually forgotten.

For the public release would it make sense to have a link to online documentation for Ultra? E.g. pointing to the wiki. This may make it easier for users to find documentation.

OK, what did you go and do now???

At work today I opened Ultra (I'm using the same version as I was using last night at home - 2.0.3372.21891) and tooltips are now working. I'm not sure how you did this from the other side of the country but thanks!

It's the first time tooltips have worked for me at work. Maybe now I'll get a chance to find a few more spots for you to add tooltips. :eek:

Mind you I still have the problem with the tooltips not working properly when Beta testing is disabled as was pointed out last night.

P.S. I like the ballon style of tips better than the rectangular boxes that are there now.

My starting XMLTV file is approx. 102MB. I always use Zehd's Picks for the tags. Typically when it's done enhancing, it increases to about 107MB. Lately (the past couple of days) it's been deceasing in size by about 20%. When it's done enhancing it's only 81MB.

I haven't changed the channels that are included in the XMLTV file. And I have notice any problem with the resulting XMLTV file.

Any idea on why it's now decreasing in size?

I wouldn't worry too much. That sounds like a 15-20% decrease in size. With the size of your file, it's just a bigger difference.

There have been many things I've done since the beginning to streamline the file and elimiate the redundancy. If I would chop everything but title-subtitle and description, you;d see a lot smaller file too...

Didn't do anything with tooltips. But you have found the problem, and so when you now show all tabs (actually your are preventing the removal of those tabs) the tooltps work...

Just to chime in, My Enhanced .xml is smaller than the .xml before processing as well (a little over 20% smaller). All of my listings look the way I want them to though. I use Zehd's picks, but then get rid of some of the tags that I'm not interested in. I only noticed this a day or two ago, but it could have been happening for a while withou me knowing.

This time, all tabs are shown by default. And you will have your tooltips...

The hidden square is about a cm square bottom right of the TS tab. Single click will hide the beta tabs, and also kill the tooltips -- which I'm working on...

I found a pretty decent workaround for the tooltips issue.
